General News – applies to all three phases

Public Holiday

There will be no school on Wednesday 9th August as it is National Woman’s Day, a Public Holiday. School will resume, as normal, on Thursday 10 August. We wish all women a stunning woman’s day.

Entrepreneur’s Day   Success

Congratulations to the children in the Yellow Diamond’s Team (Reception Year to Grade 6) who had their entrepreneur’s day on Thursday 3 August during the school morning. The students from Courtney College and the children from Courtney Kids Pre-School also visited to support the young entrepreneurs and a wonderful “market day” experience was enjoyed by all. Tons of interesting items were on sale ranging from traditional baked goodies, exotic fans and jewellery to gadgets and gimmicks. Well done to the following young merchants who made the most profit:

First Place                         Megan Van Eeden from Grade 6

Second Place                   Sandra and Angela Guerra-Blanco from Grade 3and 4

Third Place                       Danielle Van Eeden from Grade 6

A special mention goes to the following children who came in very closely behind: Lesedi Mahlangu (Grade 5); Chloe Kemp (Reception Year) and Pamela and Ntokozo Mabena (Grade 3 and 6).

Re-Registration Contracts and Policy Documents for 2018

Thank you to those parents who submitted their re-registration documents.

Relocations

Parents are reminded that a term’s notice is required if they need to withdraw their child from Courtney. Families who are relocating due to a change of diplomatic posting are encouraged to inform the office as soon as possible. Some classes have waiting lists and we would like to plan our class lists for 2018.

Courtney International Day

Our ever-popular Courtney International Day event shall take place on Saturday 16th September 2017. Please save this date. South Africa celebrates National Heritage Day on 24th September and this international event aims to celebrate our diverse cultural heritage which is truly evident at our school. Families have received information and forms whereby they can ‘reserve’ a table or two to promote their cultural heritage with a display of traditional food, clothing, artefacts and posters/information about their country of origin. There shall also be entertainment for the children and it is always a fun-filled day for families to get together and share their beautiful cultures and nationalities. We encourage our families to start discussing ideas with their children at home and make it a ‘family-oriented’ project. Parents and children can dress in their national costumes or traditional wear on the day.

Please return the forms if you are going to participate in either the “Showcase my Country” or “Market Stall”.

Family tickets (R 250-00 per family) and Market Stall Tickets (R 350-00 for the day) shall be on sale from the school offices from Tuesday 8th August.

Website Showcase

We invite parents and students alike to go to www.courtney.co.za and view the ‘classroom showcase’ in each phase. Updated information and visuals about the different events or interesting projects pertaining to your child are posted from time to time. Have a look and enjoy!
