There will be no school on Monday 25th September as it is Heritage Day, a South African Public Holiday (Bank Holiday). We wish all our families a happy and proud heritage long weekend.
School closes at 12:00 on Friday 29 September for the Spring Holiday. Term 4 resumes on Monday 9 October. Aftercare will be available, as usual. We wish all our families a safe and restful holiday.

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Grades 000 and 00
Meeting for Parents of Children in Grade 00
Parents of children who are currently in Grade 00, are invited to attend an information evening at the primary school campus on Wednesday 27th September at 17:30. This meeting will highlight important aspects of the Reception Year (Grade 0) Programme and also introduce parents to procedures at the Primary Campus. Amy Pienaar from Ruler Clothing, our uniform supplier, will also be present at this meeting to assist parents with placing orders for uniform items. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Children in Grade 000 and 00 have received information letters about a Spring Holiday Programme which will take place at Rainbow Montessori Pre-School in Main Street between 2 and 6 October 2017. Parents who are interested in the holiday programme are asked to please complete the necessary documentation and make a deposit payment by Monday 25 September 2017.

Heritage Day Dress Up
On Tuesday, 26th September, the children in Reception Year to Grade 6, may wear civvies but are asked to dress up in their country’s national outfits or the colours of their country’s flag. This is to commemorate the wonderful diversity at our school, following Heritage Day on Monday 25th September. A parade showcasing the different costumes, cultures and nationalities will take place at school.
Speech Festival Success
The Speech Festival, which was held on Thursday 21 September, was a wonderful success and we thank the parents who attended and came to watch and support the children. There was a terrific attendance. We also congratulate all the children who recited their poems so beautifully and for the excellent awards they received. The following three children were the top achievers of the festival, each being awarded Gold ++ for their individual poem: Rory Feldtmann (Grade 1); Erin Feldtmann (Grade 4) and Onkatile Koolatotse (Grade 5). In addition to this, the children at Courtney House attained the following awards: Gold + (22); Gold (46); Silver + (23) and Silver (3). We are proud of each child for doing their best.
Parents can collect the Speech Festival Certificates and Individual Reports from the school office on Friday 29 September between 07:30 and 16:00.
We thank Malume Desmond for the vibrant and entertaining presentation on the Zulu Culture, which took place on Wednesday 20 September. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. An IsiZulu extra mural activity, presented on a Wednesday afternoon, will start at Courtney House in the new term. Parents will receive more details about this when the Term 4 Extra Mural Schedules are handed out next term.
Cycle Test Mark Schedule
Parents of children in Grade 3 to 6, can collect their child’s Term 3 Cycle Test Mark Schedule from the school office on Friday 29 September between 07:30 and 16:00.

Primary Checkpoint Examinations
The Grade 6 students have received their official Cambridge Examination Entries for the CIE Primary Checkpoint Examinations which they will write at Courtney College from 9 till 20 October 2017 in English, Mathematics and Science. We wish our Year 6 students all the best as they prepare for these external international examinations.
Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. Congratulations to the children who received their badges last week for “Most Motivated Student”. This week’s award will be for “Best History Student”.
Text Book Orders for 2018
Parents have received the text book order forms for 2018. Completed order forms and payment is due by no later than 10 November 2017.
Ingwe Adventure Camp
Parents, of those who have signed up to attend the Ingwe Camp in February 2018, are reminded to make the first payments by 5 October 2017. We thank these parents for making the deposit payments and submitting the initial forms.
All children are currently working on a style of art known as Pop Art made famous by Richard Hamilton. We look forward to seeing their interesting designs.
The swimming season will start in October, at the start of the fourth term. Plain, navy-blue swimwear is to be worn. The girls’ one-piece, full swimming costume and the boys’ swim-jammers can easily be purchased from local retail stores in the school uniform departments. The navy-blue Courtney House swim-caps are available from Amy, the uniform supplier.
Classical Music Concert
Some of the students who take piano lessons with Teacher Polina, will be playing in a music concert at the Brooklyn Theatre on Saturday 14 October 2017 from 11:00 in the morning. The music concert involves music students of various ages from different schools as well as the Russian Embassy in Pretoria. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. Instruments to be played include piano, violin and Oboe.

Cambridge external exams:
Grade 8 Checkpoint: 9-20 October. Return to school for IGCSE 2019 on Monday 30 October.
IGCSE 2017 and AS/A 2017: Some papers start on 2 October and the last paper is on 16 November. IGCSE students return 17 January 2018 to start AS/A 2019.
Grade 7: Revision classes will take place during the first week of school, 9-13 October. Exams will take place 16-27 October. Return to school for Grade 8 on Monday 30 October.
IGCSE 2018: 9-27 October. Return to school Monday 30 October to continue IGCSE 2018.
AS/A 2018: 9-27 October. Return to school Monday 30 October to continue AS/A 2018.
