Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6

Prize Giving Ceremony

The Prize Giving Ceremony will take place on Monday 4 December 2017 and the details are as follows:

Time:                                    17:30 – approximately 20:00

Venue:                                 St John Vianney Seminary Hall (where the children do swimming, PE and Little Kickers)

179 Main Street, Waterkloof, Pretoria

Parents, of course, are invited to attend the ceremony.

Parents are asked to arrive on time as seating is based on a “first-come, first-serve basis”. Parking is available inside the property, from the Main Street entrance. There is quite a long walk up to where the hall is, keeping on the path which bends towards the right. The elderly and disabled may be driven up to the top.

Parents are asked to bring a small plate of finger-snacks/eats (sweet or savoury) which will be shared in the form of a buffet during the interval.

Children are to wear any clothes of their choice to the prize giving. If children are dancing or performing “movement” activities, practical attire is required.

Children are to come to school as usual on Monday 4th December from 07:50, dressed in their Courtney House uniform, as we shall be rehearsing. Please do not keep children at home as they will not be prepared for the evening proceedings. Children may stay at school for the afternoon session, if absolutely necessary, however, we ask that all children are collected by no later than 16:45 so that there is time for the aftercare teachers to get to the Prize Giving.

At the end of the evening, there will be assistants on duty so that parents “sign” the child out when leaving the venue. We ask that parents are patient while this takes place.

Inter-House Swimming Gala

The Swimming Gala will take place on Tuesday 5 December 2017 and the details are as follows:

Time:            09:30 – 13:00

Venue:         Hillcrest Swimming Pool

Corner Jan Shoba Road and Duxbury Street, opposite Hatfield Police Station

Parents are most welcome to attend and watch the Inter-House Swimming Gala.

Children are to be dropped off at school as normal in the morning. We have arranged buses to transport the children to and from the swimming pool. Children may not be taken to the gala by their parents as this makes it difficult to control. The buses will leave at 08:30 promptly. A packed lunch (no warm-ups) must be brought along as usual.

Children must wear their navy-blue swimming costume with the navy-blue swim cap and must be dressed in their swimsuits when they arrive at school. They may wear any clothes of their choice (in the colour of their team/house) over their swimming costume. They can bring shakers and ribbons etc. for cheering on their team.

Parents may also dress in their child’s House/Team colour if they wish!!!

Parents will be able to park in the parking area at the swimming pool entrance and there is no entrance fee. Parents will be directed as to where to sit. There is a “TUCK-SHOP” at the pool for parents to purchase cold-drinks, bottled water and snacks. Children will not be allowed to purchase from the tuck shop.

Children will return to school by bus at the end of the gala.

We hope to see as many parents there as possible and may the best house win!

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level

Park Day and Fitness

A basketball hoop has been put up at the College Campus for the students to use during break times and the students are excited about this. We encourage all students to use the opportunity to be physically active during the school day.

In addition to this, every Friday, there is a 40 minute second break, which allows the students time to walk to the Blue Crane Park. Teachers Linda, Cydne, Morgainne and Patrick accompany the students. Students are encouraged to bring their student cards to school on Park Days in order to be signed out by the security guard. We promote this idea because it is a break from the normal school routine and an opportunity for students to participate in some valuable exercise.
