Listeriosis Outbreak in South Africa

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has released a situation report on a serious outbreak of Listeriosis in South Africa, but particularly in Gauteng. Listeriosis is a type of food poisoning caused by eating foods contaminated by Listeria bacteria and symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, neck stiffness, vomiting and stomach-related complaints. The Department of Health urges anybody with such symptoms to consult a medical practitioner as soon as possible. Extra special care with food and the clean preparation of food is essential. Frozen foods and raw meat, chicken and fish is to be cooked properly and at high temperatures to avoid contamination. Thorough washing of hands is highly recommended.

We wish all our families a safe, happy and enjoyable summer holiday and festive season. We extend a sad farewell to those families who will be moving to their new locations and diplomatic postings and wish them the very best.

We would also like to thank all our teachers and support staff who have worked hard to ensure the best education for your children and their commitment and diligence is highly appreciated and recognised.

Winner of the “Guess Who is Who” Competition

Congratulations to Rakeb  Abey from Grade 5 for winning the draw for the competition. Rakeb correctly guessed all the Grade 6 students from their baby photos and was lucky enough to win the basket hamper of sweet treats.

Young Engineers Holiday Club

The presenters of our ever-popular Big Builders, Lego Challenge and Galilego Clubs, are hosting supervised Lego-Building holiday programmes at the NG Stella Street Church. There is a programme scheduled for 11 – 22 December  2017, as well as 8 – 12 January 2018. Cost is R 150 per session. Discounts for siblings as well as multiple sessions apply. Prize Giving

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Prize Giving evening on Monday 11 December and for the delicious eats and snacks that were supplied. Thank you, too, to the parents for their beautiful feedback messages and emails.

Swimming Gala

Unfortunately, due to the rain, the swimming gala was cancelled. We shall inform parents of the next swimming gala which will happen early in the new year.

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Results

These results have not yet arrived from Cambridge. They may even only arrive in early January as many institutions have already closed for the December holidays. Parents will be notified as soon as results are received.
