General News – applies to all three phases

Plastic Bottle Tops

Please remember that plastic cold-drink/water/milk bottle tops are still being collected to help support a charity organisation which assists lesser-privileged people to attain wheelchairs. These plastic bottle tops can be handed in at the school offices. Thank you to those who have always been most thoughtful in this endeavour.

Glass Medicine Bottles

Teacher Lauren at Courtney College is still collecting glass medicine bottles which are used in the Science Laboratory. The brown traditional glass medicine bottles together with their lids are the most suitable. All other glass medicine bottles are also useful. Please send medicine bottles to the school offices. Thank you to those who have collected glass medicine bottles in the past.

Welcome Reports

“Welcome Reports” will be handed out on Friday 23 February 2018. Parents are asked to please check their child’s message folder for these.

Policy on Toys

Parents are reminded that toys and fads/gimmicks/collectables may not be brought to school. Special toys may only be sent to school on “Show-and-Tell” days.

Music Box Lessons

We extend a warm welcome to Teacher Karen from “The Music Box”. She will be presenting music lessons to the pre-school children on Friday mornings.

Valentine’s Day Celebration

To celebrate Valentine’s Day on Wednesday 14 February, children wore civvies to school. There was a bright array of colours which included: red; white; pink and black. The children especially enjoyed their fun Valentine Fashion Parade.

In addition to this, children visited the Jaffa Jewish Home for the aged, during the school morning. They made “Love Ladybugs” with a small biscuit treat which was handed to the senior citizens as a token of love on Valentine’s Day.

Pet Hamster Naming Winner

Congratulations to Austin Wallick, from Grade 5, who won the Hamster Naming Competition. All the entries were sent to Courtney College for judging. Thank you to the College teachers and students who voted the winning names: “Dolly and Donut”. All the entries are on display at the Primary Campus.

Student of the Week

Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. Congratulations to the children who received awards for “Most Well-Mannered” student. This week, the theme is “Most Improved in Handwriting” and will only apply to children in Reception Year to Grade 2.

Plettenburg Bay Adventure and Leadership Camp

The camp group departs from Courtney House Primary Campus on Monday 19 February at 05:30 am. Teachers attending the camp include: Teachers Danielle; Natasha; Marlize; Demi and Elliot as well as Y-Sports Coach, Teacher Mariechen. We wish the camp group a happy, enjoyable, safe and memorable trip.

Please be advised that, although, the camp group departs at 05:30 am, early morning supervision only starts at 07:00 am. Parents are asked not to drop siblings of the campers off at school at 05:00 am too.

Non-Campers

Children, in Grade 3 to 6, who do not participate in the leadership camp, come to school as normal. They may wear civvies (ordinary clothes of their choice) for the full week.

Extra Murals

Some extra murals, such as Senior Art and Dazzling Dancing will not take place during the camp week due to teachers being away. Other extra murals, such as Little Kickers; Senior Soccer and Ballet will take place at the Primary School Campus or at the Blue Crane Field across the road during the camp week. Others such as Little Art and Origami will be offered by substitute teachers.

Courtney Bus Transport

Due to the fact that Elliot is accompanying the camp group, there will be no transport service for the children using Elliot’s bus. Some provision has been made for those children who live within very close proximity to the school, to be transported on Thomas’ bus.

Swimming

Teacher Elke will present swimming theory classes at the Primary Campus this week for Reception Year to Grade 6. They will not need their swimwear.

Cycle Tests

Children in Grade 3 to 6 will write their Cycle Tests from 8 till 16 March.  They have received their test schedules.

First Cycle Progress Reports

First Cycle Academic Reports for children in Reception Year to Grade 6 will be available for collection from the school office on Friday 20 April 2018. There are three reporting cycles in the year: April; August and December.

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level

Test Week for Checkpoint 2018 to AS/A Level Students

The week of 19th February until 23rd February is Test Week at the College. Each subject teacher has given the students a test scope that will serve as the focus point for this specific test week. We encourage parents to contact their child’s subject teacher this week if they are unclear about anything related to the upcoming test week. Also, during this week, parents are allowed to fetch their children after their last test session of the day. All the best to each student, as they prepare for these tests.

Checkpoint 2019 Students

The current Grade 7 students will not write tests during the above mentioned test week, however, teachers will conduct regular class tests and other forms of assessment during the term. They will have school as normal during the test week.

The students who are not participating in the Plettenburg Bay Adventure Camp, will have school as normal during the time when the others are on camp.

Charity Drive

The AS/A Level students are inviting and challenging all the classes at the college to participate in the charity drive running from 12 to 16 February. Students are asked to bring toiletry items such as: shampoo; soap; hand cream; sanitary pads and deodorant. We are focusing on collecting these items for a home sheltering abused women and children in Pretoria called ‘Sisters’. Our aim is to make our students aware of the incredible challenges people are facing and also to uplift women and children whose dignity has been severely damaged. The class who collects the most items, will be rewarded with extra break time and a picnic in the park. The challenge is on…
