General News – applies to all three phases

Blue Friday Project

On Friday 16th March, all children must wear blue clothes of their choice or any blue accessories to show support for children with disabilities. Donations of R20 per child are also welcome and will contribute towards assisting and supporting the Learning Centre for Children with Disabilities.

Thank you to Mr Adam Ely and his team of presenters who delivered an inspiring and thoughtful presentation on children with disabilities and how other children can help and care for them. The presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The College students received pamphlets explain the campaign.

Optometric Tests

Parents are reminded of the importance of having children’s eyes formally tested from the age of 5 years. This should take place, regularly, at two-year intervals. Many children require spectacles and this often goes unnoticed until they reach puberty, after much damage has already been done, and they have struggled with reading, writing and spelling throughout the foundation phase. Specsavers, through their “Kid’s Right to Good Sight” campaign offers specials on eye tests and spectacles for South African children between 6 and 12 years of age. We ask that parents have their children’s eyes checked regularly.

Charity Drive

Children are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable foodstuff for the poor. Their donations can be handed in at the school office any time between now and Friday 16th March. These items will be donated to a charity feeding scheme.

Parent-Teacher Afternoon

Parents of children in Reception Year to Grade 6 are invited to attend a parent-teacher afternoon on Wednesday 14 March between 14:30 and 17:30. This is an opportunity for parents to come in and have a look at their child’s work as well as have a brief chat to the teachers about the child’s progress. We ask that parents do not come before 14:30.

Inter-House Swimming Gala

The Inter-House Swimming Gala has been confirmed for Thursday 15 March during the school morning and will take place at the St John Vianney Swimming Pool. Unfortunately, parents will not be able to attend this time but the children will compete in their houses for the winning team trophy.

Children must come to school dressed in their official navy-blue swim wear. They may wear ordinary clothes (civvies) of their choice, over their swimming costumes, in the colour of the house/team to which they belong: purple; yellow; blue or green.

The gala will start after the cycle test session.

Children have been studying the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh, and have attempted the ever popular ‘Starry Night’ as part of their art theme. We look forward to seeing their amazing art.
