Congratulations

We congratulate all our British families on the truly spectacular and wonderful occasion of the Royal Wedding of His Royal Highness Prince Harry of Wales and Ms Meghan Markle.

Plastic Bottle Tops for Wheelchairs

A reminder for all students to collect plastic bottle tops (from water, milk and cold-drink bottles) and to hand these in at the school offices at regular intervals. These bottle tops are sent to an organisation which assists impoverished individuals to get much-needed wheelchairs.

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Tiny Tots, Grades 000 and 00

Moonstone Masquerade

Grade 000 and 00 children are invited to participate in the Stage Production. Parents are required to familiarise themselves with all the information and only those children whose parents have consented and committed to the requirements will be cast. Information pertaining to this event shall be sent out during the week. Parents are asked to complete and sign the consent form for their children to participate. The stage production fee is also payable anytime between 23 May and 17 October 2018. Please consult the information form for more details.

Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6

Student of the Week

Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. Congratulations to the children who received awards for “Best Achiever at English”. This week, the award is for “Effective Communication Skills”.

Important Information

Envelopes containing important information pertaining to the Entrepreneur’s Days; Stage Production; and a consent form for a National Health Department Campaign shall be handed out during this week. Please check your child’s bag for this envelope.

School Health Programme

The Department of Health, Basic Education and Social Development have provided information and consent forms for all children in Reception Year to Grade 7 to receive deworming at school. Please complete the consent form and return to the school office urgently, but by no later than Wednesday 23 May, if you would like your child to receive the deworming tablet. This is a serious recommendation by the World Health Organisation. Nurses from the school health team from the Department of Health shall visit the school on Thursday or Friday this week to administer the deworming tablets.

Entrepreneur’s Days

The ever-popular entrepreneur’s days shall take on a slightly different form this year. The following Grades will have an opportunity to sell their items on these dates:

Wednesday 20 June                           Reception Year, Grade 2, 3 and 5

Thursday 16 August                            Grade 1, 4 and 6

Information letters have been sent out. Parents are asked to complete the return slip, together with the R10 booking fee, if their child is to participate in the entrepreneur’s day sales. Children from Courtney Kids and students from Courtney College are invited to attend the sales and support the young entrepreneurs.

Moonstone Masquerade

Information pertaining to this event will be made available during the week. Parents are asked to complete and sign the consent form for their children to participate. Early Morning Supervision

The school provides early morning supervision strictly from 07:00 every morning, whereby designated teachers are on early morning supervision duty. Please note that children may not enter the school property before this time, for safety and security purposes.

Mid-Year Examinations

Children in Grades 3 to 6 will write their mid-year exams between 4 and 14 June 2018, with the ICT practical exam on 31 May.  Examination schedules have been handed out to the children. Exams are written during the school morning, however, school continues as normal during that time.

Poetry Festival

Children in Reception Year to Grade 5 shall participate in the Speech Festival by reciting an Individual Poem. The Speech Festival date has been confirmed for Friday 24th August. In the meantime, teachers shall start assisting the children in preparing poems which they will need to learn. Parents are invited to watch the sessions which shall take place during the school morning.

Primary Checkpoint Examinations

Students in Grade 6 will write their Cambridge International Primary Checkpoint Examinations sometime between 1st and 19th October 2018. Parents will be informed of the exact dates as soon as Cambridge has confirmed the examination timetables. These examinations are written in English, Mathematics and Science.

End of Year Examinations

Children in Grades 3 to 6 will write their final, end-of-year exams between 5 and 14 November 2018.

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level

Test Week

This term’s Test Week will be from Monday 21st May until Friday 25th May. Students are reminded to be on time for each session. Parents, please take note that students are allowed to leave after their last test of each day, however, the College will provide study areas where the students are supervised by a teacher during the day. We wish our students the very best for these tests.

School Health Requirement for Grade 7 Students

Girl Power

The Girl Power South Africa, a registered charitable organisation benefiting health and hygiene for impoverished girls in South Africa, shall be contributing a few items for a special sale at the college this Friday. Proceeds from the sale of these items directly benefit the organisation. Items are priced between R 5 and R10 and include packets of chips; home-made baked goodies and sweet treats.

Parent-Teacher Afternoon

Monday 28 May, is our termly parents’ afternoon. This provides parents an opportunity to meet with their child’s subject teachers and to discuss their child’s performance as reflected during the Test Week.

Table Tennis

Well done, once again, to our super table tennis team, who played exceptionally well against Pretoria Boys High School and walked away as the winning team of the day! Congratulations!

Potter’s House Visit

Well done to the AS/A-Level girls who visited the Potter’s House for Abused Women on Friday 18 May. Courtney College is proud of the donations made to the organisation and the compassionate manner in which our students reached out in kindness toward these women and children. Thank you to Teacher Linda for organising and arranging this valuable endeavour.
