Marriage Congratulations

We are thrilled to congratulate Jo and Philip Rimmer on the occasion of their beautiful and spectacular wedding which took place on Saturday 5 January in Ysterfontein, which is on the West Coast in the Cape. As many of you know, Jo is the founder and main owner of the Courtney Schools. We wish her and Philip a lifetime of happiness, love, laughter and many wonderful memories to share for always. Many blessings and wishes from all of us at Courtney Kids, Courtney House and Courtney College.

Pre-School Parent Information Meeting

A parent meeting will take place on Thursday 24 January at 17:00 at the Courtney Kids campus.

Extra Mural Registration Forms

All extra mural registration forms must be returned to school no later than Monday 28 January.

Foreign Language Classes

French, Spanish and Afrikaans will resume during this week.

Swimming

Swimming will start on Thursday 24 January. Please pack swimming clothes, a towel and flip-flop shoes.

Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6

Congratulations on Outstanding Results

Courtney House would like to congratulate our Grade 6 students of 2018 who received outstanding results for their Cambridge International Primary Checkpoint Examinations which they wrote in October/November. These are external international examinations in English, Mathematics and Science. The results are presented as a point score with the maximum score attainable being an achievement of 6.0.

The following class/group averages were achieved:

English                               5.1

Mathematics                  5.1

Science                               5.0

We would like to acknowledge the following five top students who achieved TWO top scores of a 6.0 in any two subjects:

Vasundhara Shiva; Teboho Motsatse; David Ndargiwa; Anushilan Rai and Rakeb Abey

We would like to commend the following four students who attained ONE top score of 6.0 in one of their subjects:

Laila Ally; Matias Gibbs; Abenezer Biratu and Dusan Radojevic

We are extremely proud of all the students who did exceptionally well. Thank you to Teachers Anthea and Demi for all the commitment and effort in assisting the students to achieve their best. A special thanks to the parents who were supportive and followed the guidelines set out by the school in terms of ensuring that their children achieve their very best.

Extra Mural Selection Sheets

Children received an extra-mural selection sheet on Friday 18 January. Please select the extra mural activities you would like your child to participate in and send the form, together with payment, in the envelope provided. These must be returned to the school office or sent with your child to school by no later than Wednesday 23 January. Every term, parents will receive a new selection sheet for the term.

Except for ballet, all other extra mural activities will start the week of 28 January.

School Times

School starts at 07:50 am with line up and morning greetings.  Children are to arrive on time for this.

Children in Reception Year to Grade 3 finish school at 13:30.

Children in Grade 4 to 6 finish school at 14:00.

On Fridays, all classes end at 13:00.

Break Times

There are two formal breaks during the day. A morning snack break from 10:00 – 10:30 and a lunch break from 12:30 – 13:00.

On Fridays, the lunch break is from 12:00 – 12:30.

Tuck Shop

Tuck shop will resume this coming Friday. Only on Fridays, children may bring between R 10 and R 25 tuck shop money if they would like to purchase treats which include: ice cream; packets of popcorn/crisps and sweets.

Swimming

Class swimming will resume this coming week. Children are to wear a plain navy- blue swimming costume and a swim cap. These are easily accessible from Woolworths or Edgars. Swimwear and a towel must be packed in a bag. Children will change at school for their swimming lesson.

The following classes will have swimming during the school morning on the following days:

Tuesdays:                           Grades 4; 5 and 2

Wednesdays:                  Grades 6; 3 and 1

Thursdays:                        Reception Year

Meet-and-Greet

Parents of children in Reception Year to Grade 6 are invited to an informal “Meet-and-Greet” afternoon on Friday 25 January between 14:00 and 16:00. This is an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers and other families. We look forward to meeting everyone, especially the new families who have joined.

Text Book Collection

Most Text books have arrived. Parents of children in Grade 1 to Grade 5 are requested to collect their child’s text books from their classrooms on Monday morning so that they can be taken home straight away. Text books must be covered in a transparent plastic cover. Please ensure that all text books are clearly labelled with your child’s name and surname. Please return the books to school as soon as possible. Students in Grade 6 have already received their text books. Titles which are still to be delivered will be sent home as soon as we receive them. Parents who are still owing payment for text books must please settle payment urgently.

Stationery

Parents who have still not ordered stationery or finalised these payments are requested to do so urgently.

Children are to bring all their stationery supplies to school on Monday. All exercise and writing books are to be neatly covered in paper or book covers of the child’s choice and plastic. All stationery is to be clearly marked with the child’s name and surname.

Pre-Packed School Lunches

As of January 2019, parents shall be able to order healthy, well-balanced, wholesome and fresh pre-packed school lunches for breaks and aftercare. Parents should receive emailed information with details pertaining to placing orders as well as menu plans from Ali-Cat Deli.

This has already started with a few children already receiving their lunches delivered to school. Parents who have opted for this service are asked to please send a snack for the morning break as the pre-packed lunches are only delivered for 12:30 lunch.

School Uniform Update

Manufacturing for Courtney House uniform items has started and shall be available for order and immediate purchase by no later than the end of February 2019. Purchasing will take place directly at school for parents’ convenience.

Moonstone Masquerade DVDs and Photos

Parents who have ordered DVDs and Photos from the Stage Production should receive their orders sometime in February 2019.

We would like to welcome back all our current families from last year and a special welcome to the new families joining our Courtney College team! May you and your child/children enjoy your time with us.

Extra Murals

Thank you to Teacher Patrick for organising new and exciting extra mural activities at the College for this year. This week all students are welcome to participate in a free lesson as presented by the various outsourced people.

Each student has received an extra-mural selection sheet and envelope. Please place the correct amount of money in the envelope and send it to school with your child.

Extra Murals will officially start on Monday 28 January.

Cambridge International Examination Results

Courtney College would like to congratulate our 2018 exam writing students on their Cambridge results.

The following Grade 8 Checkpoint Students must be acknowledged for their excellent performance:

Ntsika Mjozi who attained top scores of 6’s for English, Mathematics and Science.

Sutirtha (Rik) Chatterjee and Jazirah Fakey who both attained top scores of 6’s in two of the three subjects.

 

The following IGCSE students excelled with amazing results:

Asante Ndlela attained a total of 4 A*’s, 2 A’s and 1 B out of 7 subjects.

Hima Swetha Kolli attained a total of 5 A’s and 1 B out of 7 subjects.

Rawdah Kurrimboccus attained a total of 3 A*s, 1 A and 2 B’s out of 6 subjects.

Habibah Fakey attained a total of 1 A* and 7 B’s out of 8 subjects.

Méke Catherine Congdon attained 1 A and 4 B’s out of 8 subjects.

Linus Nunana Komla Adzanku attained a total of 1 A and 4 B’s out of 8 subjects.

 

We want to thank each student and their subject teachers who displayed a solid work ethic and commitment in preparation for their international exams. Well done!
