General News – applies to all three phases

National Days for International Students

We invite all our international students and children to dress up in their National Costume or National Dress on the day of their country’s National Day. We have such a vibrant and wonderful diversity of cultures at our school, which we are proud of and would like to appreciate.

School Policies and Codes of Conduct

We would like to remind all parents of the school policies and codes of conduct currently in place at the campuses and that we have a ‘no-tolerance’ approach to any students who contravene these policies or involve themselves in any misconduct at school or during school hours, including school outings, fun days, camps and socials etc. Disciplinary steps will be taken should this be necessary and certain behaviours will have serious consequences.

Plastic Bottle Tops for Wheelchairs

A reminder that we are still collecting plastic bottle tops from cold-drink/milk/water bottles to help assist a charity which helps underprivileged individuals get wheelchairs. Children and students can hand these in at the school offices.

We are excited to announce that the leadership and teambuilding camp for Grade 8 to IGCSE students of 2020 shall take place from Sunday 5 April to Friday 10 April 2020. The College students will attend a camp at the same venue as the primary students in Cape Town. Information packs and indemnity forms shall be made available to students soon.

Important Dates

Please take note that 16 June is Youth Day in South Africa and since it falls on a Sunday, our schools are closed for the public holiday on Monday 17 June.

This also gives our students who are writing tests during Test Week, the ideal opportunity to make full use of the long weekend to study as Test Week takes place from 18 June until 28 June. The 28th June is also the last day of term.

The following Grades will write during Test Week: Checkpoint 2020, IGCSE 2020 and AS/A-Level 2020.

The rest of the Grades such as Checkpoint 2019, IGCSE 2019 and AS/A-Level 2019 will continue with class as normal. These students are in their Cambridge Examination Year and will, therefore, write mock exams in term three.

Extra Murals

Courtney College has organised a variety of extra-mural activities this term. We encourage students to participate in order to provide them with a well-rounded and balanced lifestyle, including both academics as well as cultural, social and sport-like skills.

History Outing

Teachers Linda and Raphael took the CP2019 group to the Holocaust and Genocide Museum in Johannesburg. The IGCSE 2019’s and AS/A-level 2019 groups will be going this week, the 22nd of May.

We are incredibly impressed with this museum and are in the process of reflecting on the experience. The students will be writing essays about this day. Please go to our website to view photos and articles about the visit. This information will be available by the end of next week.

Olympiads

Well done to all our students who participated in the Olympiads this week. Please refer to next week’s Newsletter to see if any students went through to the next round.

Table Tennis

Courtney College Table Tennis Team beat Hoërskool Montana 26-6 in the table tennis semi-finals. We will be playing the finals in the beginning of the third term. Congratulations to our amazing team and well done to Teacher Patrick.
