Public Holiday Coming Up

Friday 9th August is celebrated as National Women’s Day in South Africa, a public holiday (bank holiday). There is no school on this day.

International Day

Please keep Saturday 14 September 2019 open for the ever-popular Courtney House International Day event. This is a lovely, family day of fun whereby families can represent and showcase their countries of origin with a stall of traditional food, clothing, accessories etc. More details to follow soon.

Stage Production 2020

Dates have been confirmed for 9 – 12 December 2020, with evening performances on 11 and 12 December 2020. This involves all children at the primary campus. The Stage Production takes place at The Atterbury Theatre.

Reports

Mid-Year academic progress reports are available for collection from the school office on Wednesday 7 August between 07:10 and 17:00. Parents will need to sign for these reports.

Women’s Day Event

To celebrate and commemorate Women’s Day which is on Friday 9 August, children may wear civvies (clothing of their choice) on Thursday 8 August.

Children in Reception Year to Grade 5 are also working on posters and presentations about ‘Women Who Changed the World’. They will present these to their peers on Thursday 8 August.

Parent-Teacher Afternoon

Parents are invited to view their child’s work and speak to the teachers about their child’s progress on Wednesday 14 August. The following times apply:

Reception Year to Grade 3              between 13:45 and 17:30

Grade 4 to 6                                            between 14:15 and 17:30

Health Department Letters

Letters from the Department of Health, concerning deworming and other health services, were sent home this week. Parents are asked to please complete the forms and return to the school office by no later than Wednesday 7 August. All letters are to be completed and returned, even if parents do not wish to have any of the procedures performed.

Important Time Changes for 2020

Please take note of the following time changes, at the primary campus, which will take effect from January 2020:

Official school starting time for all classes: 07:45 as opposed 07:50

Official school ending time for Grade 3 children: 14:00 as opposed 13:30

Official school ending time on Fridays for all classes: 13:30 for Reception Year to Grade 2 and 14:00 for Grade 3 to 5 as opposed 13:00

Reading and Books

A variety of new books have been purchased for the library. Children are encouraged to take books out to read at home during the afternoons and over weekends and we urge the parents to take an active role in developing their child’s reading by encouraging the reading of both Fiction and Non-Fiction books.

A selection of Non-Fiction books are on display at the front of the school and are changed every so often. Teachers use these books to encourage the reading and discussion of a variety of Non-Fiction themes from History; Science; Medicine; Animals and the Animal Kingdom; Environment and Global Issues.

In addition, a selection of books dealing with Emotional Intelligence Development are on display and are also used in the classrooms to help the children with themes such as Confidence; Good Virtues; Dealing with Aggression and Frustration and Social Skills.

Eat et Cetera School Lunch Packs

Poetry Festival

This year’s Poetry Festival, for children in Reception Year to Grade 5, whereby each child recites an individual poem for adjudication, will take place on Tuesday 29 October 2019. This festival takes place during the school morning and parents are invited to watch their child’s recital.

Student of the Week

Each week, a child from each class is identified as ‘Student of the Week’ for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. There is a display near the school office where the children who receive badges are acknowledged.

Congratulations to the students who received badges for ‘Most Courteous/Polite Student’. This week’s award will be for ‘Most Confident Student’.

Mock Examinations

We wish the Checkpoint 2019, IGCSE 2019 and AS/A-Level 2019 groups the very best as they start their mock-examinations this week.

These groups will be writing their Mock Examinations starting on 5th August and the exams will run until 23rd August.

Examination timetables have been emailed to all parents.

Please ensure that your child is at school at least thirty minutes before their exam session starts.

Students are allowed to go home after their last exam session of the day, however, study room facilities will be provided to those students whose parents are not able to collect them after their exam.

Parents’ Afternoon

We look forward to meeting with the parents of our 2020 groups, this Monday, the 5th of August, any time between 14:15 and 18:00.

This is an ideal opportunity to meet with your child’s subject teachers and to discuss any matters relating to your child’s progress.

Reports

The reports for the 2020 groups were sent via email on Thursday. Parents are asked to please contact the College if they have not yet received their child’s report.

Social Events

The IGCSE 2020 group had their social on Friday, 2nd August. The students, accompanied by Teachers Linda and Tanya, went to the Urban Soccer Venue in Hatfield. It was an exciting and fun-filled time together as a class.

Socials at the College are a way for our students and teachers to connect and to build stronger relationships with each other and with their teachers in a safe and supervised environment. Thank you to the parents who support us with regard to this aspect of school-life.

Food Ordering

A reminder that a weekly food ordering service is available at R 30.00 per meal. Orders and payments to be made on Fridays.
