Welcome to Courtney House International School Primary Campus

Select a category

Courtney House International has a primary school in Bailey’s Muckleneuk. We are the only school in Pretoria that offers the excellent Cambridge curriculum to learners from Reception (4 years old) to Year 6 (12 years old) and limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention. Teaching takes place in English and we have a wide variety of sports and cultural activities that complement our academics.

We specialise in accommodating learners of international dignitaries based at embassies, commissions, agencies, and other international organisations throughout Pretoria. Therefore, we maintain strict access control, pick-up permissions, and general safety protocols, so that you can rest assured about the safety of your child.

We form part of the Curro school group, and have aftercare and transport options, as well as specialised programmes that support reading, phonics, and other learning areas. In addition, we support our foreign learners by having Afrikaans, French, and Spanish language subjects, and have a team of TEFL-trained teachers to help non-English speaking learners adjust to our school.

We specialise in accommodating international dignitaries

Our school is conveniently located near several embassies, commissions and agencies who employ or house international dignitaries, which is why the vast majority of our learners are from other countries. As part of this accommodation, teachers who speak French and Spanish pay special attention to new learners, and we have a buddy system where learners of similar languages help each other adjust to our school. In addition, we are the only Cambridge primary school in Pretoria and we are named on the official embassy list of approved schools.

As part of the Curro school group, learners in the group enjoy preference when applying to us.  Nearby preschools whose children could progress to us include Woodhill College, Curro Hazeldean and Curro Thatchfield. We also help learners through the process of transferring from these schools to ours.

The Cambridge curriculum

We follow the Cambridge Assessment International Education which takes learners on an exciting educational journey from a young age. This international curriculum provides an advanced level of teaching with rigorous assessments and a unique approach to providing knowledge and education of realities, lifestyles, socio-economic situations (and more) of countries across the world.

This curriculum allows learners to seamlessly transfer to overseas schools, and ultimately grants matriculants access to over 600 universities in the USA (including IV League), as well as all universities in the UK.

Our method of teaching helps to develop young learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. Learners are required to handle great writing and reading workloads, challenge their own creativity and collaboration skills, and to display self-discipline, time-management and great responsibility in their work. In this way learners receive a solid foundation that allows them to progress successfully to the next stage of education.

Additional academic programmes

Learners who join us from predominantly non-English speaking countries might need some additional support to master reading, writing, and understanding of the English language. In addition, English-speaking learners might also sometimes need additional support in order to prepare for the rigorous academic standards of the Cambridge curriculum. Therefore, we have several auxiliary academic programmes woven into our curriculum.

Our auxiliary academic programmes include the following:

  • Reading programmes
  • Phonics and handwriting programmes
  • Conversational English lessons by TEFL-trained teachers

'With my family relocating at the end of 2023, I would like to thank the Courtney House team for the knowledge, skills and character they imparted on my daughter. We shall forever be grateful to the school and, even more, for the friendships she had forged with classmates hailing from across the globe.' ~ Happy parent

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our range of activities are tailored to the interests of our learners, including poetry, chess, and music. As the vast majority of our learners are from other countries, we wholeheartedly celebrate national and international commemorative days observed in their countries of origin.
