Lory Park Zoo is a little haven situated in Midrand. It is often referred to as a boutique zoo, a place where animals can be appreciated up close, where human and animal interaction is welcomed, creating a personal and peaceful atmosphere.
Lory Park Zoo opened its doors in April 2000. The zoo homes many confiscated and abused animals and is an internationally acclaimed zoo focusing on animal care, education and community recreation.
Our Grade 7 class, along with teachers Martha and Linda had the privilege of visiting this animal sanctuary last week. We were welcomed by our friendly and knowledgable guide who took us from cage to cage while sharing interesting facts about the various animals. The zoo hosts a variety of animal species from spotted hyenas to white maned lions, owls, meerkats, tigers, eagles, hornbill birds and snakes, to name a few!
Oh and let me not forget the highly entertaining parrots…the students had lots of fun talking to these beautiful birds and their, ‘hello, hello, hello’, was heard, loud and clear, throughout the zoo.
