General News – applies to all three phases

Welcome Back after Long Weekend

We welcome all families back after a long weekend and hope that a fun time was enjoyed by all.

Extra Murals

Extra murals for Term 2 commence from the 2nd May, except for Archery, which will start on 9th May. Please send completed extra mural forms and payment to the school office. External and outsourced facilitators prefer to be paid directly so please try to arrange this, where possible. Some new and exciting extra mural activities have been sourced and we have also encouraged cross-over between the primary school and the college so that the children and students have more interaction with each other during activities. This builds team-work but also good mentoring skills, which are essential for developing emotional intelligence.

Everybody learnt a thing or two or three…..and we were proud of our future teachers, vets, doctors, attorneys, judges, nurses, dancers, police, detectives, cheerleaders, psychologists, surgeons, business executives and even a palaeontologist.

Pancake Party

Thank you to all the teachers who helped make pancakes and the children and students from the primary school and college for their wonderful support. Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. Congratulations to the children who received badges last week for “Most Progress in Afrikaans, French and Spanish”.

Table Tennis Tournament Updates

Afrikaans Hoër Meisies Vs. Courtney College

On Monday 24 April the bus was very quiet taking Courtney College table tennis team to their match against Afrikaans Hoër Meisies. For the first time our students were going to play against an all girls’ team and they did not know what to expect.

The girls from Meisies Hoër received Courtney College with much excitement, wanting to know how many different countries were represented in our team.

Meisies Hoër were very good opponents with good sportsmanship and an evident love for table tennis.

Courtney College managed to win their matches and traveled home victoriously.

Boy High Vs. Courtney College

On Tuesday 25 April the Courtney College table tennis team embarked from school to face Pretoria Boys High in an epic battle of the paddles.

Boys high received the Courtney College table tennis team with great honour deeming us worthy opponents to defend their legacy of table tennis league winner for several years in a row.

The tension was tangible as the Courtney College table tennis team wanted to earn the respect of their opponents. Matches were being played on six different tables resounding throughout the building.

Almost at the end of the tournament, Courtney College tied with Boys High on 15 all. With one match still on who would determine the winner. Ande Dlamini overcame his opponent with two rounds to one leaving Courtney College the winners of the friendly match against Boys High.

Well done Courtney College Table Tennis team. We are proud of you. Thank you to Teacher Patrick for initiating this wonderful opportunity and for his superb coaching skills.
