The Courtney House Stage Production at the Atterbury Theatre to be staged on 7th and 8th December 2018.

Courtney International Day

Our ever-popular Courtney International Day event shall take place on Saturday 16th September 2017. Please save this date, more information to follow soon. South Africa celebrates National Heritage Day on 24th September and this international event aims to celebrate our diverse cultural heritage which is truly evident at our school. This event will be held at the Primary School Campus.

Public Holidays Coming Up

There will be no school on Friday 16th June as it is Youth Day, a Public Holiday in South Africa.

There will be no school on Wednesday 9th August as it is National Woman’s Day, a Public Holiday.

There will be no school on Monday 25th September as it is Heritage Day, a South African Public Holiday (Bank Holiday).

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Grades 000 and 00

Courtney Kids for Tiny Tots

We have seen a real need for children who are still very young (2 to 3 years) for a full five day programme at pre-school, to attend a three day programme and to benefit from the specialist activities such as swimming, y-sport and foreign languages, and therefore have adjusted the registration payment and tuition fees accordingly. Initial registration fee for the Tiny Tots is R 2 500 with tuition fees set at R 2 700 per month. Tiny Tots to attend Courtney Kids on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays to benefit from a specialised and more structured curriculum programme. The registration and tuition fees obviously increase as the children move from a three-day to a full five-day programme. Sad Farewell

We extend a sad farewell to Teacher Rhodé, who has to leave Courtney House due to her husband’s work transfer to Paarl in the Western Cape. Teacher Rhodé has been a remarkable member of the Courtney Team and we extend best wishes to her and her husband for their new beginning in Paarl. Teachers Cara, Demi and Linda will be taking over Teacher Rhodé’s classes.

French Foreign Language

Parents of the children who take French as a Foreign Language are invited to attend an important French Meeting.

Study Skills Workshop for Grade 4 to 6 children

There will be a study skills workshop presented by a well-known Johannesburg-based company called ‘Love to Study’ for children in Grade 4 to 6 on Monday 29th May from 08:30 till 10:00. This will be done at school and is compulsory for all the students to attend. They will have normal school classes before and after the workshop. This will assist them in preparation for the examinations but teachers will also be present so that they can continue to rehearse and review the skills taught during the workshop during class time.

Study Skills Workshop for Parents of Children in Grade 3 to 6

Parents of children in Grade 3 to 6 are invited to attend a Parent Study Help Workshop by the same company on Thursday 1 June from 17:30 – 18:30 at the primary school campus. The purpose of this workshop is to assist parents with tips and ideas as well as skills to help their child with correct ways of studying and preparing for tests and examinations.

We hope to see as many parents as possible attend and parents are asked to please complete the return slips to confirm their attendance. These slips were attached to the letters which were handed out last week.

Safe Walkway at Parking Area

A safe walkway has now been completed in front of the school to allow children space to walk to and from the school gate. Parents are asked to please drive with caution and park more cautiously when getting in and out of the parking bays at the front of the school. A reminder to all that children must be signed out by the parent or designated driver. We ask that parents are patient at the gate , especially during busy times. This is a procedure to maintain the safety of your children when entering and exiting the school.

Uniform Update

Amy Pienaar from RP Agencies, the uniform supplier, will now have a lady by the name of Monica available at the school on a weekly basis during the morning (between 07:30 and 10:00) to enable the processing of orders and stock to run more smoothly and quickly. This will officially start from the 1st of June. Some stock suppliers will be changed to ensure better quality of the garments.

Art Programme

The Artist to be studied over the next two weeks during Art lessons is Jackson Pollock. Children shall learn about the history and background of this artist who became famous for producing art from splatters of paint. This art technique is a true process of self-expression and includes something highly therapeutic as the art emerges as paint is splashed onto paper or canvas. This promises to be a messy yet inspiring art activity and we await the magnificent art pieces with baited breath!

Student of the Week

Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. Congratulations to the children who received their badges last week for “Exceptional Conduct and Behaviour”. This week’s theme will be for “Most Knowledgeable Student in History and Integrated Studies”.

Quizmasters Quiz

All children from Reception Year to Grade 6 will participate in a Quizmasters Quiz on Wednesday 28th June during the school morning. The four house teams will compete against each other for scores. The challenge is on…….get those general knowledge thinking caps on!!

Mid-Year Examinations

Children in Grade 3 to 6 will write their Mid-Year Examinations between Monday 12th June and Friday 23rd June. Examination Schedules will be handed out to children during this coming week. Teachers will start preparing the children for these examinations and will assist with study methods to further assist the children.

Mid-Year Academic Progress Reports

Mid-Year academic reports will be available for collection from the school office on Tuesday 8th August.

National Science Olympiad

Children in Grade 4 to 6 have been invited to participate in the National Science Olympiad which will take place on Tuesday 1st August during the school morning. Information slips for those children who have shown an interest have been made available. More details about this Olympiad will be available soon. The Grade 3 children will participate in the Olympiad but internally to provide them with an opportunity to experience a Science Olympiad.

The following dates have been set aside for the most successful entrepreneur’s day events we started last year:

Test Week for Term 2

Students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level will write their Term 2 tests from 22nd – 26th May. Students are encouraged to prepare adequately for these tests and to do their best. Students are reminded to approach teachers for assistance or clarification of concepts they are not sure of.
