Community Charity Awareness
Winter is here in full force and the poor and destitute members of our communities struggle at this time. We appeal to all our children and students to help by bringing an item of the following to be donated to a charity organisation which helps to feed poor children and families in Pretoria and the surrounding areas. Items include: tinned food; mealie-meal, maize meal, samp, rice, canned soup or packet soup, peanut butter, sugar, tea, coffee. These donations can be handed in at the school offices and must be brought in by Thursday 15 June.

The Courtney House Stage Production at the Atterbury Theatre to be staged on 7th and 8th December 2018.
Courtney International Day
Our ever-popular Courtney International Day event shall take place on Saturday 16th September 2017. Please save this date, more information to follow soon. South Africa celebrates National Heritage Day on 24th September and this international event aims to celebrate our diverse cultural heritage which is truly evident at our school. This event will be held at the Primary School Campus.
Public Holidays Coming Up
There will be no school on Friday 16th June as it is Youth Day, a Public Holiday in South Africa.
There will be no school on Wednesday 9th August as it is National Woman’s Day, a Public Holiday.
There will be no school on Monday 25th September as it is Heritage Day, a South African Public Holiday (Bank Holiday).

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Grades 000 and 00
Courtney Kids for Tiny Tots
We have seen a real need for children who are still very young (2 to 3 years) for a full five day programme at pre-school, to attend a three day programme and to benefit from the specialist activities such as swimming, y-sport and foreign languages, and therefore have adjusted the registration payment and tuition fees accordingly. Initial registration fee for the Tiny Tots is R 2 500 with tuition fees set at R 2 700 per month. Tiny Tots to attend Courtney Kids on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays to benefit from a specialised and more structured curriculum programme. The registration and tuition fees obviously increase as the children move from a three-day to a full five-day programme. Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6
Study Skills Workshop for Grade 4 to 6 children
There will be a study skills workshop presented by a well-known Johannesburg-based company called ‘Love to Study’ for children in Grade 4 to 6 on Monday 29th May from 08:30 till 10:00. This will be done at school and is compulsory for all the students to attend. They will have normal school classes before and after the workshop. This will assist them in preparation for the examinations but teachers will also be present so that they can continue to rehearse and review the skills taught during the workshop during class time.
Study Skills Workshop for Parents of Children in Grade 3 to 6
Parents of children in Grade 3 to 6 are invited to attend a Parent Study Help Workshop by the same company on Thursday 1 June from 17:30 – 18:30 at the primary school campus. The purpose of this workshop is to assist parents with tips and ideas as well as skills to help their child with correct ways of studying and preparing for tests and examinations.
We hope to see as many parents as possible attend and parents are asked to please complete the return slips to confirm their attendance. These slips were attached to the letters which were handed out last week. We have already had a superb response.
French Foreign Language Meeting
Thank you to all the parents who attended the French Meeting on Wednesday 24th May. Valuable suggestions were discussed and lots of information shared. We appreciate the feedback from the parents and will certainly put some of the ideas discussed in place soon.
Children in Reception Year to Grade 6 may wear their cosiest pyjamas and slippers to school on Friday 9 June if they pay R 10 for this warm and comfy treat.
Amy Pienaar from RP Agencies, the uniform supplier, will now have a lady by the name of Monica available at the school on a weekly basis during the morning (between 07:30 and 10:00) to enable the processing of orders and stock to run more smoothly and quickly. This will officially start from the 1st of June. Some stock suppliers will be changed to ensure better quality of the garments.
Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. Congratulations to the children who received their badges last week for “Most Knowledgeable Student in History and Integrated Studies”. This week’s theme will be for “Superb Skills at Y-Sport and Physical Education”.
All children from Reception Year to Grade 6 will participate in a Quizmasters Quiz on Wednesday 28th June during the school morning. The four house teams will compete against each other for scores. The challenge is on…….get those general knowledge thinking caps on!!
Children in Grade 3 to 6 will write their Mid-Year Examinations between Monday 12th June and Friday 23rd June. Examination Schedules will be handed out to children during this coming week. Teachers will start preparing the children for these examinations and will assist with study methods to further assist the children.
Mid-Year Academic Progress Reports
Mid-Year academic reports will be available for collection from the school office on Tuesday 8th August.
National Science Olympiad
Children in Grade 4 to 6 have been invited to participate in the National Science Olympiad which will take place on Tuesday 1st August during the school morning. Information slips for those children who have shown an interest have been made available. More details about this Olympiad will be available soon. The Grade 3 children will participate in the Olympiad but internally to provide them with an opportunity to experience a Science Olympiad.
Children in Reception Year to Grade 5 will start receiving poems to learn. These children will participate in a Poetry and Speech Festival during the third term. They will be expected to recite their poem in front of an audience as well as the adjudicators who will give each participant a certificate and report. Parents are also invited to attend and watch. The date of the event will be finalised soon.

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level
Test Week Over
All students have completed the test week and normal lessons and classes now resume.
College students will participate in an Inter-Class UNO Championship, starting this week, to find the College UNO Champ of 2017. Creative adaptations of this popular card game have been allowed to make the rounds more interesting but also more challenging. Thank you to Teachers Morgainne and Patrick for the incentive and we wish our students the best of luck. Let the UNO games begin…
