General News – applies to all three phases

Courtney International Day   

Our ever-popular Courtney International Day event shall take place on Saturday 16th September 2017.  

Tickets must be purchased prior to the event.  

Tickets are available from the school offices. Please retain your ticket and bring it with to the event. There will also be a lucky draw on the day based on the number of your ticket.  We hope to see all our wonderful families at this event.  

The following countries are already on our Showcase List: Angola; Bangladesh; Botswana; Canada; D.R.C; Ethiopia; Uganda and Romania. Many thanks to the families who have already agreed to present their cultural traditions in the form of a showcase.  

Other attractions include: Entertainment for the children; Food and Beverage Stalls; Tea Garden; Coffee Bar; Live Jazz Music; Jumping Castles; Soccer Challenge; Face Painting and Henna Art Designs. There will also be stalls selling hats, jewellery, accessories, children’s clothing accessories and aprons etc.  

New Applications and Registrations

Current families who would like to enrol siblings for the 2018 academic year, are urged to get these applications processed as soon as possible as spaces are filling up very quickly. Some classes are full and have waiting lists, so to avoid disappointment, please finalise all registration procedures as early as possible. Please contact the school offices for more details about new registration packs.

The Courtney House Stage Production at the Atterbury Theatre to be staged on 7th and 8th December 2018.  

Public Holidays Coming Up

There will be no school on Monday 25th September as it is Heritage Day, a South African Public Holiday (Bank Holiday).

Field Trip to ‘The Farm Yard’

The children are looking forward to this exciting day-trip. Thank you to parents for the payments and indemnity forms received. Please ensure that children are at school by 08:00 as the bus cannot be delayed for latecomers. Children must remember their sunhat; water bottle; packed lunch; comfortable walking shoes (trainers/takkies) and food to feed the animals with.

Spring Day Celebration

The children may wear civvies (clothes of their choice) on Friday 1st September to celebrate Spring Day. The theme is fairies, flowers, insects, bugs, birds and butterflies as a dress-up for the younger children (Reception Year and Grade 1) and “fun-in-the-sun” with a fancy hat for the older children (Grade 2 to 6).  

 Plettenburg Bay Tour to Ingwe Forest Adventures

The camp has been confirmed and booked for 19 – 24 February 2018. Thank you to those parents who have submitted the indemnity forms and made the reservation payment. The reservations to Ingwe Forest Adventures have now been made. Children not attending the camp will have school as normal during that time.  

Plettenburg Bay Camp Meeting

This took place on Wednesday 23rd August at 17:00 at the primary school campus. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend this meeting. There is a display up with information and visuals about the camp for those parents who were not able to attend the meeting.  

Student of the Week

Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. Congratulations to the children who received their badges last week for “Most Progress in Mathematics”. This week’s award will be for “Most Progress in English”.  

Cycle Tests for Term 3

Children in Grade 3 to 6 will write their cycle tests between 7 and 15 September. Cycle tests are shorter, term tests covering new concepts taught during the term. The Grade 6 students will write their Cambridge Primary Checkpoints mock exams during this time. Test Schedules were handed out during the week.  

Speech Festival

The Speech Festival will take place on Thursday 21 September at Courtney House during the school morning between 08:30 and 12:30. Children will have an opportunity to recite their poem and will receive feedback in the form of an adjudication by the allocated external examiner. Parents are invited to watch their child’s session. More details about specific times for each class will be made available closer to the time.  

Text Book Orders for 2018

Parents have received the text book order forms for 2018. Completed order forms and payment is due by no later than 10 November 2017. 

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level

Test Week/Mock Exams

All College students will write tests and mock exams from Monday 28 August to Friday 1 September.  

Mark Schedules

Mark Schedules shall be emailed to parents on Friday 8 September.  

Parent-Teacher Afternoon

Parents are invited to attend a parent-teacher afternoon to discuss their child’s progress and test results on Monday 11 September between 14:30 and 18:00.
