Courtney International Day Success
Thank you to all the families who shared in our International Day Event which was held on Saturday, 16th September. There was a phenomenal turn out and it was a truly wonderful experience for all involved.
Thank you to the families who participated in the Cultural Showcase of their countries as well as the market stalls and those who sold items and delicious food. Visiting the different stalls was a delightful and inspiring experience for everyone and our families are commended on the enthusiasm and effort that went into this.
Thank you to our security company, Interactive Security, for the additional security guards; mounted horse guards and vehicles that they provided for the event. Special thanks, too, to Mr Faizel Ally, for organising extra police patrols from the SA Police Force. The additional security was mostly appreciated.
Congratulations to the De Carvalo Family with children Adriel (Grade 1) and Evandro (Grade 3) for winning the ticket lucky draw. We hope the family will enjoy the lovely basket filled with local and international treats.
Congratulations to the Dads for winning their soccer challenge against the boys, scoring 4-1.
Congratulations to the Moms for winning their soccer challenge against the girls, scoring 3-1.

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Grades 000 and 00
Meeting for Parents of Children in Grade 00
Parents of children who are currently in Grade 00, are invited to attend an information evening at the primary school campus on Wednesday 27th September at 17:30. This meeting will highlight important aspects of the Reception Year (Grade 0) Programme and also introduce parents to procedures at the Primary Campus.

Junior Hockey Match at Maragon Olympus
Congratulations to the children in the Junior Hockey Team (Grade 1 – 4) who played tremendously well against Maragon Olympus on Tuesday 5th September. The children had a great first experience playing official hockey matches. They played exceptionally well, enjoying the competition and challenge set by the other school. It was a wonderful learning experience which we hope to continue with next year. We thank Maragon Private School for hosting such a superb Hockey Tournament as well as Hockey Coaches, Bianca and Danielle and Cynthia for helping at the match.
Fun Company Visit
Teacher Marlize’s Grade 3 class had a terrific visit to The Fun Company on Thursday 14th September during the school morning. The group especially enjoyed the thrill of the Bumping Cars and played some Arcade Games. This was their reward and prize for collecting the most bottle tops during the challenge earlier this year. Thank you to Teachers Marlize and Tash for taking care of them during their visit.
We are thrilled to announce that the Jungle-Gym Playgrounds at the front of the school have now been completed with the installation of Astra-Turf. Thank you to Julian, from The Wood Workshop for the awesome wooden jungle-gyms and to Bruce and his team at TuffTurf for installing and laying the Astra-Turf lawn. Fun and exciting (lest we say noisy) times are ahead of us!
The Speech Festival will take place on Thursday 21 September at Courtney House during the school morning between 08:30 and 12:30. Children will have an opportunity to recite their poem and will receive feedback in the form of an adjudication by the allocated external examiner. Parents are invited to watch their child’s session. More details about specific times for each class will be made available to parents as soon as we have received the final schedule of events from the adjudicators themselves.
Heritage Day Dress Up
On Tuesday, 26th September, the children in Reception Year to Grade 6, may wear civvies but are asked to dress up in their country’s national outfits or the colours of their country’s flag. This is to commemorate the wonderful diversity at our school, following Heritage Day on Monday 25th September.
Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. Congratulations to the children who received their badges last week for “Most Progress in Individual Reading (Reception Year to Grade 3) and ICT (Grade 4 to 6)”. This week’s award will be for “Most Motivated Student”.
Text Book Orders for 2018
Parents have received the text book order forms for 2018. Completed order forms and payment is due by no later than 10 November 2017.
The swimming season will start in October, at the start of the fourth term. Plain, navy-blue swimwear is to be worn. The girls’ one-piece, full swimming costume and the boys’ swim-jammers can easily be purchased from local retail stores in the school uniform departments. The navy-blue Courtney House swim-caps are available from Amy, the uniform supplier.
We are excited to announce that Teacher Cherize is expecting her first child in early January 2018. We wish her all the best.
Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level
Thank you to the parents who attended the parent-teacher afternoon on Monday 11 September. It was a wonderful turn-out.
We are very sad to say goodbye to Teacher Martha, who after the birth of her second daughter, has decided to be a ” stay-at-home mommy” and therefore, will not be returning to Courtney College. We thank her for all the exceptional contributions she has made over the last 10 years as well as for the many memories made. We wish her well and hope that she will visit us regularly.
