Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6

Parents of children in Reception Year to Grade 6 are invited to attend a “meet-and-greet” on Wednesday 31 January from 17:00 till 18:15. This is an opportunity for the parents to meet the teachers and also get to know some of the other parents. We hope to see as many parents there as possible.

Adventure and Leadership Camp

Parents of children who are signed up to attend the Ingwe Adventure Camp in Plettenburg Bay have received additional information containing updated details and forms that need to be completed and returned to school. In addition, two certified copies of your child’s birth certificate are required for the flights. Please submit these in at the school office before 31 January. Children who do not participate in the leadership camp, come to school as normal. The camp group departs early on Monday 19 February and will arrive back during the late afternoon on Saturday 24 February. There is a visual display with additional information and visuals pertaining to the camp and extra places of educational value for parents and children to look at.

Swimming resumed on Tuesday 23 January. Children are required to wear the correct swimwear (navy-blue swim shorts or full costume as well as a swim cap) and parents are reminded to pack in a swimming towel, sun-block and extra underwear. Cambridge Text Books

As soon as text books have arrived, they will be handed out to the children. Parents are asked to ensure that all these text books are covered in a clear, transparent plastic cover and clearly labelled with your child’s name and surname. Please return the covered books to school as soon as possible after having received them.

School Uniform

All the children look exceptionally neat and organised in their official navy-blue Courtney House uniform so a big thank you to the parents for taking the effort to ensure this. We appreciate your support in this regard as the children look smart and are proud of their school.

ICT Lessons

We are pleased to announce that we have implemented the Cambridge ICT lessons for Grade 2 and 3 students this year, in addition to the ICT that was always offered for students in Grade 4 to 6. We will offer this programme to Grade 1 and Reception Year children later on in the year. Teacher Danielle is the ICT teacher.

Primary School Times

School starts at 07:50 with a morning line-up and greeting session. Please ensure that children arrive early enough to be in time for this as it is an important start to their day.

Grade 4 to 6 students end their formal school day at 14:00, Mondays to Thursdays, and at 13:00 on Fridays.

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level

Student Guidance Programme

Johan and Mia, our Student Welfare Facilitators, request that all consent forms be completed by the parents and sent back to school by no later than Tuesday 30 January. Also, a reminder to all parents to contact Teacher Linda at the College if they would like their child to see Johan or Mia for any issues related to career guidance, study skills or emotional support.

Park Day

We would like to inform our new parents that we have ‘Park Day’ on Fridays. Every Friday, Teachers Patrick; Linda and Cydne walk the students to The Blue Crane Park where they can play soccer and also enjoy a longer second break with their friends. We encourage all students to join in.

School Starting Time

A reminder, to all students, that school starts at 07:50 with our daily Homeroom Time. Therefore, a request that students are at school by 07:45 in order to be ready for the homeroom lesson starting at 07:50. This is an important time of the day at the College because we want to encourage our students to be on time for school, be prepared and ready for their first lesson of the day, complete and follow through on administration tasks and also have sufficient socialisation time with their peers and teachers in order for the class to bond as a group. Homeroom Time is from 07:50 to 08:10 every day of the week. We appreciate your support in advance.
