We wish all our families a safe and wonderful long weekend. School re-opens on Wednesday 2 May.
We express our sincere condolences and sympathy to Teacher Assistant Jeannet, on the loss of her eldest son due to illness, on 21 April 2018.
On Saturday, 12 May, all teachers from the primary and college campuses shall be participating in in-house training and teacher workshops focusing on enhanced teaching methods.
Limelight Concerts at The Brooklyn Theatre
Teacher Polina’s Private Music Studio shall be hosting two music concerts at The Brooklyn Theatre on Saturday 5 May and Saturday 12 May 2018 between 11:00 and 12:00. Many of the Courtney House piano students shall be participating in conjunction with piano and violin students from other schools as well as a few special guests. Tickets are R20 each and are available at the door. All are welcome to attend and support the young musicians. For more information, please contact Teacher Polina on 071 229 3773. We look forward to seeing as many as possible there. Teachers from Courtney House shall be attending the concert on 5th May.

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Tiny Tots, Grades 000 and 00
Dress Up Day
Friday 4 May will be an ‘Occupations Dress-Up Day’ where children can dress up in “What will I be when I am grown up”. We look forward to seeing all the young career enthusiasts.
On Friday 4 May, the children will have a walk-in presentation focusing on recycling and looking after the planet. The educational presentation is entitled ‘One Earth, One Chance’.

First Cycle Progress Reports
First Cycle Academic Reports were available for collection on Thursday 26 April. Thank you to parents for collecting their child’s report. Please complete and return the report feedback form to the school office by no later than Friday 4 May.
The Excalibur Experience
Children in Grade 3 to 6 will attend this History Presentation at the Tshwane Children’s Theatre in Irene during the school morning on 9th May. Information and indemnity forms were handed out on Friday. Please ensure that forms, together with payment, are returned by no later than Thursday 3 May. Children must wear civvies but are encouraged to dress up in medieval attire or wear medieval-type accessories to the outing. They will also enjoy a medieval banquet feast at the presentation. Thank you to parents who have already submitted the forms and payment.
Children in Grades 3 to 6 will write their mid-year exams between 4 and 14 June 2018, with the ICT practical exam on 31 May. Examination schedules shall be handed out to children during the coming week. Exams are written during the school morning, however, school continues as normal during that time.
The ever-popular entrepreneur’s days shall take on a slightly different form this year. The following Grades will have an opportunity to sell their items on these dates:
Wednesday 20 June Reception Year, Grade 2, 3 and 5
Thursday 16 August Grade 1, 4 and 6
Every Friday there is a tuck shop sale whereby children can buy snacks and sweet treats. We have started to introduce “vetkoek” as it is too cold to sell ice cream. Proceeds from tuck shop sales benefit the Courtney House Stage Production which shall take place at the Atterbury Theatre in December 2018.
Children in Reception Year to Grade 5 shall participate in the Speech Festival by reciting an Individual Poem. Tentative dates have been set for either 24th or 31st August. As soon as the Speech Festival organisers have confirmed a date, parents shall be informed. In the meantime, teachers shall start assisting the children in preparing poems which they will need to learn. Parents are invited to watch the sessions which shall take place during the school morning.
Primary Checkpoint Examinations
Students in Grade 6 will write their Cambridge International Primary Checkpoint Examinations sometime between 1st and 19th October 2018. Parents will be informed of the exact dates as soon as Cambridge has confirmed the examination timetables. These examinations are written in English, Mathematics and Science.
End of Year Examinations
Children in Grades 3 to 6 will write their final, end-of-year exams between 5 and 14 November 2018.
Stage Production 2018
All children in Reception Year to Grade 6 shall participate in the Courtney House Stage Production of 2018 at the Atterbury Theatre. Detailed information letters as well as participation forms shall be made available to parents soon. Formal rehearsals at the theatre take place on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th December. These are full day stage rehearsals and attendance is compulsory. Performances take place on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th December during the evenings. Parents are asked to please ensure that children are available for all the rehearsals and both performances and not to make early travel arrangements or arrange holidays during the weeks leading up to the performances.

Table Tennis Team
Congratulations to the Courtney College’s Table Tennis Team on their magnificent victory over Affies (Afrikaans Boys’)High School. Well done to each player who participated. We are extremely proud of our team!
Charity Drive for Potter’s House
The AS/A-Level girls will be visiting Potter’s House, a home for abused women and children, on Friday 11th May. The students will visit the women as well as deliver toiletries donated by the College students. Any other donations of food, clothing and blankets are also most welcome. These donations can be sent to the College office on or before Thursday 10 May.
This term’s Test Week will be from Monday 21st May until Friday 25th May.
