School closes at 12:00 on Friday 22 June for the winter holiday. Aftercare supervision will be available, as usual, until 17:00 on this day. School reopens on Monday 16 July.
We wish all our families a safe, exciting and wonderful holiday.
Many of our international families have come to the end of their diplomatic posting or contracts in South Africa and are returning home or moving on to their next posting. We wish these families a sad farewell and hope that they have enjoyed their time in our beautiful country.
Please take note that all three school offices and campuses will be closed from close of business on Friday 22 June until Monday 2 July 2018.
Long Weekend in August
There is no school on Thursday 9 August and Friday 10 August 2018. The 9th of August is celebrated as National Women’s Day which is a Public Holiday (Bank Holiday) in South Africa. School will resume on Monday 13 August.

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Tiny Tots, Grades 000 and 00
2-Litre Cold Drink Bottles
Thank you for sending empty 2-litre plastic cold drink bottles to school. Please continue to send more bottles from home.
Weekly Tuck Shop
A small tuck shop will be available to the children at Courtney Kids every Friday. Proceeds will be used towards the stage production. Parents are reminded to not exceed R10 per week and children are not obliged to bring money every Friday.
The children from Courtney Kids will visit the Primary Campus on Wednesday 20 June to join in the entrepreneur’s day and support the young merchants at their sale. Please send money (not exceeding R20) with your child.
Parents are invited to attend our termly “Tea Day” mornings on Thursday 21 June and Friday 22 June from 07:00 – 08:30. Come enjoy a cup of tea and have a look at your child’s work.

Decorate-a-Doughnut Day Success
On Friday 15 June, children were able to purchase a plain doughnut and choose from a variety of toppings to decorate their doughnut. This was such a huge success filled with excitement and loads of sugar! Thank you to all the children who participated and made it such a memorable experience. A special word of thanks is extended to Teachers Cara and Linda, from Courtney College, for judging the competition and selecting the winners. Congratulations to the following children who received prizes for their charming and colourful doughnut designs:
Winner of the Junior Category was Elspeth Grignon (Grade 1) with Isabella Edward (Grade 1) coming in at second place.
Winner of the Senior Category was Anushilan Rai (Grade 6) with Leone Mwebe (Grade 3) coming in at second place.
Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. Congratulations to the children who received awards for “Most Enthusiastic Student”. This week, the award is for “Most Athletically Talented Student”.
On Wednesday, 20 June, the children who have reserved their tables, will be selling their items at Entrepreneur’s Day. This applies to children in Reception Year, Grades 2, 3 and 5. Please ensure that children have a float (change) of not more than R50. The sale will take place from 10:00 till 12:30. We wish our young merchants much business success!
Children may wear civvies (ordinary clothes of their choice) on Friday 22 June as it is the last day of Term 2.
Extra Mural activities will continue as normal on Friday 22 June.

Changes to the School Uniform Supplier
Please take note that we are in the process of changing school uniform suppliers. We thank Amy Pienaar, from RP Agencies, and wish her much success for the future.
We shall keep parents informed as to when the new suppliers officially take over.
“Save-the-Rhino’’ Themed Week
The week of 17 July – 24 July 2018, at Courtney House, is dedicated to “Save-the-Rhino”. Presentations, included one by Teacher Jo, will take place at school. Children will be engaged in art projects dedicated to draw awareness to this desperate cause. There will also be exquisite and hand-adorned rhino collectibles for sale (prices ranging between R250 and R450) to assist rhino conservation but also aid local rural communities who make the rhino collectibles as a means of sustaining themselves.
Children will receive order forms whereby they can place their orders for rhino collectibles beforehand.

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level
The Grade 7 students had a wonderful time at Asher’s Farm. This is a vegan farm where no animals are slaughtered but instead given the right to live. Thank you to Teachers Estelle, Cyd and Jalani for taking the time to create and provide for a unique experience for our Grade 7 group.
Last Day of Term
We are very excited about the College’s Soccer and Volleyball Tournament on the last day of term, Friday 22 June. May the best teams win! Thank you to Teachers Patrick and Mary and their IGCSE Homeroom for organising and hosting this event. Money raised on the day will be donated to an animal shelter and rescue centre.
The College has started with our daily Study Skills lessons which take place every morning from 07:45 to 08:30. We ask parents to ensure that their child is in time for the lesson every morning. This week we have focused on organisational skills and we are positive that these lessons will contribute to an overall positive learning environment.
