First Aid Training
Teachers from Courtney Kids, Courtney House and Courtney College shall participate in First Aid Training on Friday 27 July and Friday 3 August.
Long Weekend in August
There is no school on Thursday 9 August and Friday 10 August 2018. The 9th of August is celebrated as National Women’s Day which is a Public Holiday (Bank Holiday) in South Africa. School will resume on Monday 13 August.

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Tiny Tots, Grades 000 and 00
The pre-school campus will close at 13:00 again on Friday 3 August due to the teachers attending First Aid Training. Children who have not been collected by 13:00 will be transported to the Courtney House Primary Campus, corner of Mackie and Charles Bramley Streets in Nieuw Muckleneuk, where they will be supervised during the aftercare programme.
Dress Up Day
There will be a Dress-Up Day for children in Tiny Tots, Grade 000 and 00 on Friday 3 August. The theme is: “What I want to be when I grow up!”
Weekly Tuck Shop
A small tuck shop will be available to the children at Courtney Kids every Friday. Proceeds will be used towards the stage production. Parents are reminded to not exceed R10 per week and children are not obliged to bring money every Friday.
Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6
Girl School Course
Children in Grades 3 to 6 have received letters and information about a “Girl School Course” which is an etiquette and personal-care programme for girls aged between 9 and 12 years. The course, presented in English, will take place on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th September (during the Spring Holiday) from 09:00 – 16:00 each day. A minimum of 10 participants are required for the course to be presented. Parents who would like their child to take part in the course are kindly requested to complete the form and return to the school office on Monday 30 July.
Uniform Clearance Sale
Courtney House winter and summer stock will go on a reduced, clearance sale on Wednesday 8 August between 07:30 and 16:00. Items will be available at marked down costs, available directly from the school office. All stock is to be cleared before the new suppliers take over later this year. Courtney House tracksuits, jerseys, winter shirts, summer golf shirts, sleeveless shirts, skirts, dresses and shorts as well as caps and hats shall be available. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of this sale.
Parents can collect their child’s Mid-Year Academic Report from the school office on Wednesday 8 August between 07:30 and 16:00.
Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. This week, the award is for “Most Caring and Compassionate Student”.
“Gift of Gratitude” Rhino Collectibles
Thank you to all those who supported this cause by purchasing hand-made rhino collectibles. An amazing amount of over R 11 000 was made due to the sales and your generous donations which will aid community development and help rhino conservation. We are proud of our Courtney Families who are so generous and truly appreciate their wonderful support.
Most Children have received their rhinos, depending on what they ordered. Rhinos, whose stock have run out, will be sent as soon as the new stock has arrived.
Puppet World Presentation
On Tuesday, 24 July, children thoroughly enjoyed the puppet show type presentation on “The Big Five” with a large amount of focus dedicated to rhino conservation.
Jenna Bischoff Drive
There is a display at the front of the school, of Jenna Bischoff’s Hand Lotions and Hand Soap, which is a remarkable incentive by this innovative 10-year old girl to aid rhino conservation and help organisations cope with the crises. The products are available for purchase from Thelma at the school office, with hand soap and body lotion priced at R40 per item and a small hand cream at R 7 per bottle. Proceeds go directly to a rhino conservation fund set up by Jenna Bischoff.
Cycle Tests and Mock Examinations in September
The Grade 3 – 5 children shall write cycle tests in all their subjects from 10 – 14 September.
The Grade 6 students shall write Cambridge Primary Mock Examinations in their core subjects (English, Mathematics and Science) between 3 and 7 September.
We wish all our children much success at these tests and examinations.
A reminder to children in Grades 1, 4 and 6 that their entrepreneur’s sale is on Thursday 16 August during the school morning. This is an opportunity for these children to make and sell items with the aim of making a profit. Should children want to sell items, they are to reserve their table through the school office. We look forward to some wonderful treats and creative ideas!
Parents are reminded of the Poetry Festival on Friday 24 August. Each child in Reception Year to Grade 5 will have an opportunity to recite their poem and be adjudicated by the external examiners. The sessions will take place at school between 08:30 and 12:30. Parents are invited to watch their child’s session.
Ballet Stage Production
The ballet students shall perform in a ballet stage production on Saturday 8 September. There are two performances, at 14:30 and again at 18:30. Janet has provided parents with letters containing all the information needed for this production. She has requested that parents take note of the details and that children do not miss the extra rehearsals which have been scheduled.

Mock Examinations and Tests
Please take note of the following important dates with regard to the upcoming Mock Examination and Test Week at the College:
Grades writing mock examinations: IGCSE 2018 and AS/A-Level 2018
Duration Dates: 6 August – 24 August
Checkpoint 2018 students will write their Mock Examinations for their core subjects (Mathematics, Science and English).
Duration Dates: 13 August – 17 August
Tests in their other subjects will be written during the following week: 20 – 24 August.
Grades: Checkpoint 2019 and IGCSE 2019
Duration Dates: 13 August – 17 August
Parents should be aware that students only come to school, during the upcoming Mock Exams and Test Week, to write their papers. They are allowed to leave at the end of their last session of the day. The College, will, however, provide study supervision classrooms that will allow students to study during the day or after their tests if parents are not able to fetch them directly after their tests or exams.
Please ensure that students are at school before the start of their session as students arriving late for sessions may not be allowed into the exam room. Thank you for your co-operation with regard to this arrangement.
Extra mural activities will continue during the mock exams and test week.
