August is celebrated as woman’s month and so we commemorate and show our appreciation of all the women of the Courtney Families: the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, teachers and assistants.

A company by the name of ‘CK Kiddies Wheels’ offers a safe, reliable and affordable transport service with fully branded vehicles for easy identification. The service is available for school transport, extra-mural driving and exam lifts for irregular exam hours. Moonstone Masquerade Stage Production for children in Grades 000 – Grade 6 shall be staged at the Atterbury Theatre on the evenings of Friday 7th and Saturday 8th December 2018. A reminder that full day stage rehearsals take place on 5th and 6th December 2018.

Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Tiny Tots, Grades 000 and 00
A reminder to parents that the stage production fee of R 400 per child is payable before 17 October 2018. Please consult the information form for more details.
Construction, next to the Dey Street Campus, has begun. Parents are assured that the children will not be allowed to get close to the site and extra safety precautions are in place. A temporary fence has been erected to keep the children away from the boundary wall.
Monte Bird Garden Visit
Parents are reminded to return the consent form for the trip to the Monte Casino Bird Garden, together with R 60 payment, no later than Monday 20 August.
On Thursday 16 August, the children from Courtney Kids will support the primary school children at their entrepreneur’s day event. Please send money, not exceeding R 20, on this day.
Please ensure that your children bring hats to school every day.
Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6
A reminder to children in Grades 1, 4 and 6 that their entrepreneur’s sale is on Thursday 16 August during the school morning. This is an opportunity for these children to make and sell items with the aim of making a profit. We look forward to some wonderful treats and creative ideas!
On Friday, 17 August, children in Reception Year to Grade 6, are invited to pay R10 and dress up in anything pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. This is a civvies day whereby children can wear clothing of their choice, however, we would like to see everyone wearing pink clothing or pink accessories. Proceeds to benefit Pink Drive for Cancer Awareness.

Grade 6 Parent Meeting
A parent-teacher meeting for parents of Grade 6 students is scheduled for Wednesday 22 August at 17:15. Parents are asked to please attend this important meeting as we prepare the children for the upcoming Cambridge International Examinations.

Parents received order forms, in the report envelopes, for Deans’ Stationery Pack Orders for 2019. Please consult these order forms and place orders, directly through Deans, to qualify for the special discounted rates they are offering on high quality stationery items.
Uniform Clearance Sale
Thank you to the many parents who purchased Courtney House uniform items at the clearance sale. A phenomenal amount of stock was sold. Parents, who would still like to purchase more items, can do so through the school office.
Girl School Course
Parents have received information about enrolment and payment details. Parents are reminded to register their child online, directly through the Girl School website, as soon as possible.
On Friday, 30 August, children from Tshepang Care Centre shall be visiting the primary campus for a day of community service on behalf of our children, as they partner with children from the care centre in terms of learning skills and enhancing social interaction.
Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as “Student of the Week” for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. Congratulations to the children who received badges for “Most Courteous and Polite Student”. This week, the award is for “Top Achiever in Mathematics/Numeracy Skills”.
Cycle Tests and Mock Examinations in September
The Grade 3 – 5 children shall write cycle tests in all their subjects from 10 – 14 September.
The Grade 6 students shall write Cambridge Primary Mock Examinations in their core subjects (English, Mathematics and Science) between 3 and 7 September.
We wish all our children much success at these tests and examinations.
Parents are reminded of the Poetry Festival on Friday 24 August. Each child in Reception Year to Grade 5 will have an opportunity to recite their poem and be adjudicated by the external examiners. The sessions will take place at school between 08:30 and 12:30. Parents are invited to watch their child’s session.
Swimming resumes during the first week of October. Parents are reminded to purchase plain, navy-blue lycra swimwear from local retail stores such as: Woolworths, Edgars, Mr Price Sport and Sportsman’s Warehouse. Girls are to wear a one-piece, full swimming costume. Boys are to wear swim shorts. Swim caps are essential.

Ballet Stage Production
The ballet students shall perform in a ballet stage production on Saturday 8 September. There are two performances, at 14:30 and again at 18:30. Janet has provided parents with letters containing all the information needed for this production. She has requested that parents take note of the details and that children do not miss the extra rehearsals which have been scheduled.

Mock Examinations and Tests
Please take note of the following important dates with regard to the upcoming Mock Examination and Test Week at the College:
Grades writing mock examinations: IGCSE 2018 and AS/A-Level 2018
Duration Dates: 6 August – 24 August
Checkpoint 2018 students will write their Mock Examinations for their core subjects (Mathematics, Science and English).
Duration Dates: 13 August – 17 August
Tests in their other subjects will be written during the following week: 20 – 24 August.
Grades: Checkpoint 2019 and IGCSE 2019
Duration Dates: 13 August – 17 August
Parents should be aware that students only come to school, during the upcoming Mock Exams and Test Week, to write their papers. They are allowed to leave at the end of their last session of the day. The College, will, however, provide study supervision classrooms that will allow students to study during the day or after their tests if parents are not able to fetch them directly after their tests or exams.
Please ensure that students are at school before the start of their session as students arriving late for sessions may not be allowed into the exam room. Thank you for your co-operation with regard to this arrangement.
Extra mural activities will continue during the mock exams and test week.
