General News – applies to all three phases

Public and School Holiday

Thursday 21 March is Human Rights Day, a public/bank holiday in South Africa. School is, therefore, closed on Thursday 21 March as well as Friday 22 March.

Aftercare Supervision

A reminder to all parents that, although aftercare supervision is available at all three campuses daily until 17:00 at no additional cost, children and students must be collected by no later than 17:00. Collecting children late places extra strain on teachers and staff who have to wait until all children have left. In unforeseen circumstances, where a parent is delayed or going to be late, kindly let the school offices know so that teachers on duty are aware. We thank parents, in advance, for their support in this regard.

Plastic Bottle Tops for Wheelchairs

Children are reminded to continue collecting plastic bottle tops from water, milk, cold-drink bottles. The bottle tops are recycled but assist in getting wheelchairs for those who need them but cannot afford them. Bottle tops can be handed in at the school offices.

We urge all families to subscribe on the website www.courtney.co.za to receive the weekly newsletter via email. This is a valuable and important source of communication between home and school. Parents who have not already done so, are urged to do so as soon as possible. It is a quick and simple exercise which only requires a few minutes of your time by inserting your email address where it asks you to.

Charity Drive

Majakaneng is a rural area with a very high unemployment rate. Michelle Sathekge and her family have been involved with the community for a while. They are inviting all Courtney College students to contribute to this worthy cause. Students can bring clothes and toiletries to school over the next two weeks. The items can be taken to Teacher Linda’s office. It will be great if all can join in to help this community where we can.

Valentine’s Day Celebration

Valentine’s Day will be celebrated on Thursday 14 February by hosting a competition entitled: ‘The Redder, The Better!’ There are prizes to be won for the best dressed class and individual, keeping the theme in mind. We will use our Homeroom time to take fun-filled photos and for writing love quotes and poems to decorate the school.

Test Week

The College’s Test Week will take place from the 11th March till 20th March. We are reminding all students and parents of the dates in advance in order to be well-prepared.
