Mother’s Day Wishes
A special Mother’s Day wish is extended to all the mothers, hoping that you will be spoilt and feel most loved.
Chamber Choir Festival
The Chamber Choir Festival takes place on Sunday 12 May 2019 at Weskoppies Main Hall at 14:30 for 15:00. Tickets are R 170 each and can be purchased at the door.
Notification to All Parents
Letters concerning the closing of Courtney Kids to accommodate much needed space for the growth and demand of the primary and college campuses were emailed to all current parents on Tuesday afternoon. Courtney Kids will officially close on 11 December 2019.
As sad as this is, school management has had to make a business decision and utilise the facilities at our current disposal to manage the huge demand for space and extra classrooms in the primary and secondary phases.
The Dey Street Campus (currently the pre-school) will be redesigned to become a Sixth Form College for A/AS-Level students, more suited to encompass the needs and expectations of senior students.
Public Holiday in June
There is no school on Monday 17 June due to the public holiday (bank holiday) on 16 June which is Youth Day.
International Day
Please keep Saturday 14 September 2019 open for the ever-popular Courtney House International Day event. This is a lovely, family day of fun whereby families can represent and showcase their countries of origin with a stall of traditional food, clothing, accessories etc. More details to follow soon.

Extra Murals
Extra Mural forms must be returned no later than Monday 13 May. All extra mural activities will resume from Monday 13 May.
Dress Up
Friday 24 May will be a dress up day for all Pre School children. The theme for the dress up is “what I want to be when I grow up” (occupations)
Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6
School Lunch Packs
We are thrilled to announce that Eat et cetera shall be providing a school lunch-box ordering service for children in Reception Year to Grade 6 as of 20 May 2019.
A vegetarian and non-vegetarian option shall be available. Lunch packs will be delivered to the school at 09:45 daily so that children have lunch and snacks for both first and second break. Meals shall be simple and child-friendly but healthy and nutritious.
Information leaflets and order forms will be handed out to children during the week.
Winter Beanies now Available

Environmental Awareness Presentation
Puppet World will be presenting an educational show on environmental awareness entitled ‘Our World, Our Responsibility’ on Wednesday 15 May.
To show support for our environment and the preservation of our beautiful world, we request that all children dress in green or wear green accessories such as aprons, hats, beanies, scarves, shoes, jewellery etc. on this day.
New and Exciting Extra Murals
Children have received their extra mural selection forms. Extra mural activities commence from Monday 13 May.
We ask that parents, who have not done so, return all forms and payment to the school office by no later than Monday 13 May.
A variety of new and different extra murals have been introduced this term, including Chem Wize and Canvas Club. There is a display at the front of the school with more information about these clubs.
Asher Farm Sanctuary Visit Changed
The Grade 4 class visit to Asher Farm Sanctuary has been postponed to a later date in June. Parents shall be informed of the new date.
Leadership Adventure Camp 2020 in Cape Town
The leadership/adventure/educational camp for children in Grades 3 to 6 (2020) has been extended to include the current Grade 6 class who will be in Grade 7 next year.
Information packs have been made available as parents are required to make reservation bookings and first payments now already to secure their spaces for 2020. Closing date for reservations and initial payment is 31 May 2019.
Mid-Year Examinations
Children in Grade 3 to 6 will write their mid-year exams in all subjects from Tuesday 18 June until Wednesday 26 June. Exam timetables have been handed out.
Mid-Year Academic Reports
Mid-Year progress reports shall be available for collection from the school office on Wednesday 7 August.
Classroom Showcase
We invite parents and students to go to www.courtney.co.za and view ‘classroom showcase’ of the primary campus. You will locate this under the Courtney House link on the website. Updated visuals of important events and visits are posted on this platform.

Emotional Intelligence Development
Each month a different selection of specialised books covering themes to aid the development of emotional intelligence shall be provided by Teacher Demi (registered Educational Psychologist) for teachers to use in the classroom. The content shall be read and discussed with all the classes to encourage discussions and engage the children in activities to inspire greater awareness of their personal-, social- and emotional development. Themes relate predominantly to universal values and value systems but also deal with aspects of EQ Development such as personal responsibility; social interaction; intra- and inter-personal skills; confidence; resilience; assertiveness training; effective communication; empathy building; self-control and leadership.
Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as ‘Student of the Week’ for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. There is a display near the school office where the children who receive badges are acknowledged.
This week’s award is for the ‘Most Neatly Dressed Student’.

Extra Murals
Courtney College has organised a variety of extra-mural activities this term. We encourage students to participate in order to provide them with a well-rounded and balanced lifestyle, including both academics as well as cultural, social and sport-like skills.

Ping-Pong
We would like to congratulate our amazing Ping-Pong Team who have won a series of play-out rounds and are now participating in the semi-finals on Thursday 16 May. Well done and all the best to our team. Thank you to Teacher Patrick for coaching and motivating them to achieve amazingly.

Student Representative Council
On Monday 13 May, the College will have its termly voting for the new student representative for each Grade. The results will be made known in our next newsletter on 20 May.
Outings and Visits
The Checkpoint students as well as the IGCSE and AS/A-Level History students will be visiting the Holocaust and Genocide Museum on the 17th and the 22nd May, respectively.
