General News – applies to all three phases
Parents are asked to please keep children home if they are sick with bad colds, flu or any other infectious illness such as a tummy bug or bronchitis and to seek medical attention so that the child can recover quickly. Children who come to school sick spread the viruses and germs. A medical certificate is required if a student is sick for an exam.
A few cases of chicken pox (a common childhood illness) have been reported at the primary campus. If your child develops fever, flu-like symptoms and an itchy rash or blisters, please seek medical advice and keep the child at home until the rash and spots have cleared.

Important Notice Concerning School Uniform
The uniform suppliers, Grant and Jenny, will be away for three weeks, so Monday 10 June will be the very last delivery. The next delivery, given that orders have been placed online and payments made by Monday morning, will be when the school reopens on 23 July. Please try, as much as possible, to make electronic payments as opposed cash payments.
Please consult the website for ordering and purchasing school uniform items which is www.schooluniformshop.co.za
Children, who are wearing the correct uniform, are looking very smart and we commend them as well as their parents for making a plan to get the correct uniform and ensure that they are dressed neatly for school each day. Many visitors to the school and prospective families have commented on the neat appearance of the students and the school. This has made us very proud.
Current Grade 5 and 6 students will be required to wear the navy- blue Courtney House shirts and tracksuits when they move on to the College Campus for Grade 6 and 7 in 2020. Parents must please order these items and ensure that these children are wearing the correct uniform by the time the new term starts.
Meeting for Parents of Grade 5 and 6 Students
Thank you to the many parents of children who are currently in Grade 5 and 6 who attended the information-sharing meeting on Wednesday 5 June at the primary campus. We appreciate the support from parents.
Children in Grade 3 to 6 will write their mid-year exams in all subjects from Tuesday 18 June until Wednesday 26 June. Exam timetables as well as Exam Scopes have been handed out. We request that parents assist their child with establishing quiet and purposeful study time (away from electronics, TV and other distractions) and good study techniques in preparation for the exams. We wish our children the very best as they prepare for their examinations.
“The Bully Mystery”, a presentation on anti-bullying techniques, has been organised for children in Reception Year to Grade 6 on Thursday 13 June during the school morning.

Congratulations to the students who received badges last week for ‘Best Mental Math/Arithmetic Student’.
This week’s award is for ‘Most Talented or Competent at Physical Education and Gross Motor Skills’.
Important Dates to Remember
Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level
Congratulations to our two History students, Danielle Van Eeden in Checkpoint 2019 and Noelle Onyango in IGCSE 2020. They won the competition for the best article written by our History students who visited the Genocide and Holocaust Museum two weeks ago.
We are thrilled with the quality of their writing and hope they will enjoy their well-deserved gift voucher as the winning prize.
Food Ordering Service
We encourage all parents to carefully read the message that was sent on Friday via a-mail. This will provide you with information about the food ordering service that the College, in collaboration with the restaurant ‘Eat et cetera’, is currently establishing.
We encourage parents to make use of this service as it will provide your child with a daily substantial meal and prevent students from buying too many sweets, popcorn and fizzy drinks.
Test Week Reminder
Test Week for Term 2 for the Checkpoint 2020, IGCSE 2020 and the AS/A-Level 2020 students will take place from 18th June until the 28th June.
Please take note that each student writing during this Test Week has already received a test schedule. Please contact the college office if your child has not received one.
Each student has also received a Test Scope for each of their subjects. We wish them well during this time of preparation and studying.
Students are allowed to go home directly after their last test of the day, however, study room facilities will also be provided in the case of parents not being able to collect their child immediately after a test session.
Students should be present at the College Campus about thirty minutes before their test session begins.
Parents are asked to ensure that their child has the proper mathematics equipment and stationery required for each subject.
