We wish all the dads a very happy and enjoyable Father’s Day and hope they were spoilt and treated but also shown how much they are loved and appreciated.
Public Holiday on Monday
There is no school on Monday 17 June due to the public holiday (bank holiday) on 16 June which is Youth Day.
Term 2 comes to an end on Friday 28 June for the winter holiday.
Please be advised that the school offices will be closed during the first week (1 – 8 July) of the winter holiday.
Parents are asked to please keep children home if they are sick with bad colds, flu or any other infectious illness such as a tummy bug or bronchitis and to seek medical attention so that the child can recover quickly. Children who come to school sick spread the viruses and germs. A medical certificate is required if a student is sick for an exam.
A few cases of chicken pox (a common childhood illness) have been reported at the primary campus. If your child develops fever, flu-like symptoms and an itchy rash or blisters, please seek medical advice and keep the child at home until the rash and spots have cleared.
Please keep Saturday 14 September 2019 open for the ever-popular Courtney House International Day event. This is a lovely, family day of fun whereby families can represent and showcase their countries of origin with a stall of traditional food, clothing, accessories etc. More details to follow soon.

Stage Production 2020
Dates have been confirmed for 9 – 12 December 2020, with evening performances on 11 and 12 December 2020. This involves all children at the primary campus. The Stage Production takes place at The Atterbury Theatre.
Courtney Kids News – applies to children in Tiny Tots, Grades 000 and 00
During this week, we will discuss different cultures as the weekly theme. On Friday, 21 June, children may dress up in traditional clothing which represents their country of origin or cultural dress. They are also welcome to bring traditional or cultural food and snacks to share.
Progress reports for Term 2 shall be handed out to parents on Friday 21 June.
Parents of the pre-school children are invited to attend our quarterly ‘Tea Morning’ on Thursday 27 June and Friday 28 June between 07:00 and 08:30.
Courtney House News – applies to children in Reception Year to Year 6
Children in Grade 3 to 6 will write their mid-year exams in all subjects from Tuesday 18 June until Wednesday 26 June. We request that parents assist their child with establishing quiet and purposeful study time (away from electronics, TV and other distractions) and good study techniques in preparation for the exams. We wish our children the very best as they prepare for their examinations.
Thank you to Superheroes Corné and Erika for their wonderful presentation on “The Bully Mystery”, an informative and interactive presentation on bullying which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Civvies for Charity
Children in Reception Year to Grade 6 may wear civvies (clothes of their choice) on Friday 28 June but are asked to bring an item for charity. This includes non-perishable foodstuff (tinned food, maize meal, rice, packet soup) or old clothes, toys, blankets etc. The charity donations must be handed in at the school office on or before Wednesday 26 June. Items to be donated to charity to assist those in need.
Grade 5 and 6 Movie Review Outing
On Thursday 27 June, the Grade 5 and 6 students will visit Brooklyn Mall to watch Guy Richie’s version of the movie ‘Aladdin’ during the school morning. They will be expected to write a detailed movie review afterwards. More details and information shall be handed out to parents during the week.
Grade 4 Visit to Asher Farm Sanctuary
The Grade 4’s have received information letters and indemnity forms to attend this outing on Thursday 27 June. Parents are asked to please complete the forms and submit, together with payment, to the school office. Teachers Danielle and Chloe shall be attending this outing with the group.
Pretoria Youth Theatre’s ‘The Three Little Pigs vs The Wolves’ Visit
Children in Reception Year to Grade 3 have received information letters as well as indemnity forms for this outing on Thursday 27 June. Parents are asked to please complete the forms and submit, together with payment, to the school office. The following teachers will be going with the children: Teachers Glenda; Jeannet; Lee; Sorina; Jane; Tash; Sheri-Lee and Marlize.

The uniform suppliers, Grant and Jenny, will be away. The next delivery will be when the school reopens on 23 July.

Student of the Week
Each week, a child from each class is identified as ‘Student of the Week’ for showing excellence or great progress in various areas. The children are awarded badges at line-up. There is a display near the school office where the children who receive badges are acknowledged.
Congratulations to the students who received badges last week for ‘Most Talented or Competent at Physical Education and Gross Motor Skills’.
This week’s award is for ‘Most Progress in Reading (Reception to Grade 3) and Most Progress in Reading Lab (Grade 4 to 6)’.

Courtney College News – applies to students in Year 7 to A/AS-Level
Congratulations to Bisi Sekwane on his latest hockey achievements. He is going to represent his province, Northern Gauteng, at the championships in Pietermaritzburg during the school holidays. Well done! We wish him and his team the very best.
We wish the 2020 students the very best of luck for their upcoming test series as test week begins on Tuesday 18 June.
The College plans to take any interested students to the Urban Soccer Venue on Friday 28 June, which is the last day of term. It is a five-on-a-side form of the game and the courts are in Hatfield. Indemnity forms will be provided to the students next week and we ask all parents whose child would like to participate in the outing, to please complete the form and return it to school as soon as possible.
This promises to be a wonderful social and fun activity for our students.
Details pertaining to times and cost will be given to parents next week.
Food Ordering Service
The College has established a permanent arrangement with Eat et cetera to provide daily meals for our students.
Orders are taken once a week on a Friday for the upcoming week.
Healthy, nutritious and hot meals are prepared on the day at the cost of R 30.00 per meal and are delivered to the College Campus at 12:00.
We encourage parents to make use of this service as it will provide your child with a daily substantial meal and prevent students from buying too many sweets, popcorn and fizzy drinks.
College Leadership/Team Building Camp for 2020 in Cape Town
We are excited to announce that the leadership and teambuilding camp for Grade 8 to IGCSE students of 2020 shall take place from Sunday 5 April to Friday 10 April 2020. The College students will attend a camp at the same venue as the primary students in Cape Town. Information packs and indemnity forms as well as reservation details have been made available to students.
Parents are asked to submit reservation forms and make camp deposit payments as soon as possible to avoid losing a space.
