General News – applies to all three phases
Friday 9th August was celebrated as National Women’s Day in South Africa. We trust that all the women had a wonderful day filled with love, appreciation, respect and inspiration.
Please keep Saturday 14 September 2019 open for the ever-popular Courtney House International Day event. This is a lovely, family day of fun whereby families can represent and showcase their countries of origin with a stall of traditional food, clothing, accessories etc.
All children and students have received information leaflets about the event. Please consult the information included and purchase your family tickets (R 350 per family) from the school offices. These tickets serve as entrance to the event so they must be brought along on the day. Tickets will be available from Thursday 22 August.
Families who wish to showcase their country of origin or nationality are asked to complete the attached slip and return this to the school offices as soon as possible. The closing date for showcase entries is Wednesday 28 August. Families who showcase their countries may not have a market sale too.
Individuals who wish to have a ‘market sale’ on the day can purchase a space for R 400. This must also be done through the school office.
We look forward to seeing everyone at this family event.

Women’s Day Event
Thank you to Mr and Mrs Ely for the generous donation of the beautiful, bright orange ‘women’s month’ scarves/doeks/bandanas for the Courtney House staff. All the teachers and staff wore these with pride on Thursday 8 August and will continue to wear them throughout the month of August. The scarves are also there to bring awareness of women’s rights and the subsequent violation of women and children in our country and throughout the world.
We were proud of the children in Reception Year to Grade 5 who made informative posters and gave interesting presentations about ‘Women Who Changed the World’. These influential women included: Louisa May Alcott; Marie Curie; Amelia Earhart; Florence Nightingale; Helen Keller; Oprah Winfrey; Princess Diana; Anne Frank; Jane Austen; Mother Theresa; Coco Chanel; Queen Elizabeth II; Malala Yousafzai; Ellen Ochoa; J.K. Rowling and Dr Sally Ride.
