Contracts for 2020
Parents are reminded to submit the 2020 renewal contracts to the school offices before the end of October. If these 2020 contracts have not been received, your child’s space at the school could be given over to a child on a waiting list.
Relocations and Withdrawals
We would like to remind parents to provide the school with sufficient notice in terms of withdrawing their child due to relocations or moving to a new school. There are quite a few students on waiting lists so if parents are aware that they may be withdrawing their child from either Courtney House or Courtney College between now and May/June 2020 that they please notify the school as soon as possible.
No Tolerance for Misconduct at School
We wish to remind parents and students of the school’s Behaviour Policies and Code of Conduct. A no tolerance approach to teasing, bullying, hate speech, theft, misconduct of any kind, use of inappropriate language or symbolism, sexual harassment and forms of disrespect towards teachers and peers will be taken, with immediate suspension and expulsion being the consequences.
The policies and code of conduct apply at school during school hours as well as during any school-related functions, evening events, special days, camps and other events which may be at different venues.
Parents are asked to read the code of conduct and school policies thoroughly and to discuss such content with their children (at age-appropriate levels of course) so as to reiterate the consequences of negative behaviour. We wish to maintain strict discipline at all our campuses and ask that parents and students comply with the requirements set out in our school policies.
National Dress on National Days
We remind all our families that children may come to school wearing their country’s traditional clothing on the National Day or Independence Day of their country.

Drop off and Collection of Children
We ask that parents are patient when waiting at the gates or waiting for parking during peak times of drop off and collection of children during mornings and afternoons.
Where we understand that parents have places to be and deadlines to meet, particularly during the afternoon peak times, we ask that parents execute patience as children cannot be taken out of extra murals before the activity has properly ended and/or taken out school lessons or extra lessons while they are still busy. Our assistant staff are doing their utmost to call children to the gate as quickly as possible to ensure the safe departure of children at our school gates.
Parents are also asked to refrain from blocking the gate by standing too close to the entrance and causing congestion.
Parents and drivers are reminded to drive carefully and cautiously when getting in and out of parking bays as there are children and pedestrians all around.
A Notice Board displaying extra mural times and other notices shall be displayed outside around the gate for parents to check times of activities.
Some of the ballet students shall be taking part in their RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) ballet examinations on Monday 28th October during the school morning. We wish our ballet students the very best and may they break a leg!
The annual poetry festival, whereby children recite a prepared poem in front of an adjudicator and an audience of parents, will take place on Tuesday 29 October during the school morning at the primary school.
Parents are invited to come along and watch their children. The times of exact groups performing have been made available to parents via a letter that went out last week. The festival starts at 08:30 promptly and we ask that parents arrive in good time.
For the poetry festival, children are to wear their full navy-blue, Courtney House school uniform. Parents are asked to please ensure that children are clean and neatly dressed on this day. Hair is to be neat and out of the face.
We wish all the children, who are participating, the very best and we know they will make us proud.

Ballet Dress Code as a Formality
All children who participate in the ballet extra mural are required to wear the correct RAD ballet attire which includes a pink leotard, pink ballet tights or pink ballet socks, well-fitting pink ballet shoes. Children MUST wear the formal pink ballet jersey as well as the formal pink ballet skirt over their leotards when leaving the school property. Ballet takes place at a public venue outside of the school parameters and therefore, we expect that children are correctly dressed for this activity. Children, who do not have the appropriate ballet attire, shall not be permitted to attend the ballet class on any day. This will apply from Monday 21 October. Children are also expected to wear their ballet shoes from school covered with a pair of thick white or black school ankle socks. Please ensure that all items are clearly marked with your child’s name and surname.
Parents can purchase these items from the Ballet Barre, 81 George Storrar Drive, Groenkloof.

No Hat, No Play
We remind parents that children must wear their Courtney House Navy Blue hat to school every day. The sun is very strong and a hat is essential for outdoor play and activities.
